Predicted Wigan Athletic line-up to face Nottingham Forest in the Championship

Wigan Athletic will look to put behind their disappointing League Cup loss at Rotherham when they host Nottingham Forest in the Championship on Saturday.

The 3-1 defeat to Rotherham has spelt the end of Wigan in the League Cup after Paul Cook made wholesale changes to his side.

After back-to-back demoralising defeats, Cook will be desperate to bounce back against Nottingham Forest at home.

Team News

Cook has admitted that Nathan Byrne is fully fit and will be involved with the squad for Saturday’s fixture. Byrne’s return from injury comes as a massive boost to Wigan as the right-back was the club’s player of the year last season in the League One.

Darron Gibson is out for four weeks with a grade two tear on his groin but Gavin Massey could have a place in the squad after missing the League Cup defeat at Rotherham.

Probable Wigan Athletic XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Paul Cook

Christian Walton (GK)

Walton is Wigan’s No.1 in goal and he is expected to start against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Reece James (RB)

James has been really impressive for Wigan so far this season and Cook will hope his player continues the good work.

Chey Dunkley (CB)

Dunkley played a key role in Wigan’s League One title success last season and will have a bigger role to play this time around in the Championship.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

Kipre is an aggressive and strong defender who never shies away from giving 100% on the pitch.

Antonee Robinson (LB)

A summer signing, Antonee Robinson will have to up his game from here on as Byrne has returned from injury.

Sam Morsy (CM)

Sam Morsy will return to the starting line-up after not being involved in the midweek League Cup defeat.

Callum Connolly (CM)

Partnering Morsy in central midfield will be Connolly, who possesses a terrific engine due to his high fitness level and work ethic.

Callum McManaman

Callum McManaman (RW)

McManaman offers an excellent amount of flair on the ball, is pleasing on the eye when running at defenders and is most effective when crossing the ball to the strikers.

Josh Windass (CAM)

Windass provides a good threat behind the striker and will be a useful option in the No.10 role for the Latics.

Michael Jacobs (LW)

Jacobs has started the season in outstanding form and will hope to continue the same when Wigan meet Forest on Saturday.

Will Grigg (ST)

Will Grigg was one of the key players for Wigan last term and once again has a big task on his shoulders this season.
