Cost Effective! – Three Free Agents Who Wolves Could Still Sign

Wolverhampton Wanderers have not been in a good position as this for a very long time, and the squad that Nuno Espirito Santo has put together may contain some of the best players ever to grace this level. Nuno and the Wolves board are well within their rights to look at what they already have and decide that there isn’t anything better out there.

But there are some great players that will be desperate to play and take Wolves to the next level. Nuno Espirito Santo and the ownership group at Wolves will know that if you are standing still, you are moving backwards. With that in mind, there are some free agents out there who are looking for a new club. These players could benefit Wolves big time.

Phillip Wollscheid

The former Wolfsburg and Stoke City defender is a free agent after leaving FC Metz and although he has not managed to get off the bench for the French side, he is an experienced centre-back who has played in both the Premier League and the Bundesliga. He would add a level of expertise to arguably the weakest part of the Wolves squad.

He has played in a back three before and has been training all season so he wouldn’t need too long to get up to the speed of the Championship. He can also play out from the back and could keep up with the frantic pace of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. An interesting option for Wolves.

Alex Song

Alex Song has made just under 400 appearances in 14 years as a professional footballer but it could have been so much more. The 30-year-old was released by Rubin Kazan in January and is now without a club, he was once worth £15million so to pick him up now on a free may be a good bit of business if he is still fit, and that is a very big if.

Josue Pesqueria

The former FC Porto player is the most likely player on this list to be on the radar of Nuno and his team. The fact that he plays as an attacking midfielder, where Wolves are best stocked in the squad, may be part of the reason why he has not already been snapped up. After moving to Osmanlispor in Turkey in the summer, the Portuguese player failed to settle in and was released this month. He could be the latest member of the Portuguese contingent in the West Midlands.
