Why New York City FC’s Jack Harrison Would Be A Great Signing For Leicester City

Leicester City are set to act on their interest in England U-21 star Jack Harrison by making an official bid for the winger in the January transfer window as per reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t talkSPORT).

Harrison, who plays for American Major League Soccer side New York City FC, has had a very impressive season that has seen him break into the England U-21 side as well. His form has attracted a lot of interest, with reports claiming that the likes of Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion too are monitoring the attacker.

However, the latest report from Calciomercato claims that Leicester are leading the chase and that they are set to come up with a concrete offer for Harrison in the winter transfer window. But, will he be a good capture for the Foxes?

Leicester currently occupy 12th place in the Premier League table after 12 games, having collected 4 points in their last 3 games since Claude Puel took over the reins as the manager of the club.

The new boss has resorted to using a 4-2-3-1 setup, deploying star winger Riyad Mahrez in a number 10 role while utilising the likes of Demarai Gray, Ben Chilwell and Marc Albrighton out on the flanks. So, adding more firepower to the wide areas at the King Power Stadium for the second half of the season wouldn’t be the worst idea.

Young Harrison would perfectly fit the bill for the Foxes. A right-sided winger by trade, Harrison is known for his pace, dribbling abilities and the ease with which he can get past his man down the flanks. The 21-year old’s close control when on the ball is exceptional and each time he runs at an opponent with the ball, it makes for exciting action. And his blistering ground speed makes him a huge asset to have, especially during counter-attacks.

The England youth international has netted 10 goals and registered 3 assists in 34 MLS appearances for NYCFC this season, emerging as one of the best young players in the United States. He was also nominated for the MLS Rookie of the Year award.

His exploits saw him earn a call-up to the England U-21 national team last month. Harrison made his debut for the Three Lions’ youth team, coming on as a substitute against Scotland on October 6, 2017, and featured once more after that game.

Capable of some fancy skills, the winger also is an intelligent operator and knows how to create space with his movement. As seen by his goal tally this season, it is also clear that Harrison has a keen eye for a goal and can be a major threat in the attack, with his directness and goal-scoring instincts.

Not just that, the youngster also works extremely hard when his team are without possession and is someone who can force a mistake from the opposition with his pressing and efforts off the ball.

At 21 years of age, Harrison is showing all signs of developing into a fine wide player and Leicester will benefit from acquiring him, as he is someone who is on the rise, looking ready to make an immediate impact.

Reports claim that Harrison is valued in the range of £6million and still has two years left on his contract with New York City FC. However, a return to England and a chance to play in one of the best leagues in world football will surely be too hard to turn down for the youngster. Go for it Puel!
