Leicester City have been harbouring an interest in Benfica stars Andre Almeida and Rafa Silva. The former is quite a solid fullback whereas the latter is a lethal winger. The duo could work wonders for the Foxes. Leicester actually targetted him throughout the recently concluded January window but a move did not materialise for either of them. However, with the season set to draw to a close and the summer window coming up, Claude Puel is understood to be renewing his interest in the duo.
Straight off the bat, it is quite evident that signing both of them could prove to be quite a coup for the club. Leicester started out on quite an underwhelming note and it was clear that they were not going anywhere under Craig Shakespeare.
Hence, the management eventually sacked him and then appointed Claude Puel, who has done quite a good job ever since. The former Southampton manager has managed to bring them into the top 10 and they are currently gracing the 8th spot.
Their biggest priority for the rest of the season will be to solidify and maintain their spot in the top 10 but next season, the Foxes will be eager to nurse greater ambitions and push for a higher finish. To fulfil that, they will need new recruits and to that end, both Almeida and Silva could definitely help them do better.
Almeida primarily plays as a right-back and considering the fact that Leicester are heavily reliant on first-choice player Danny Simpson, signing the Benfica defender will prove to be advantageous in terms of boosting squad depth and providing competition to Simpson as well.
Meanwhile, Silva has struggled to make a strong impact for the Portuguese giants but there is absolutely no doubting his potential and talent. At 24 years of age, he has a long way to go and he could truly start afresh with a clean slate at Leicester. Given how Puel has improved the club and moulded them into a better team, the Foxes will be optimistic about next season and the young attacker could help them reach greater heights.
With Riyad Mahrez’s future looking uncertain with every passing day, Silva could work wonders at the King Power Stadium. Hence, given a choice, Leicester must most definitely make a move for the Benfica duo. Puel could be gunning for a bargain deal. Regardless, this is something they must actively pursue and signing them could truly help Leicester in chasing their ambitions next season.
