Tottenham Hotspur didn’t sign a single player in the past two transfer windows, yet have an outside chance to win the Premier League title this season.
That just goes on to tell what a brilliant work Mauricio Pochettino has done at the club and why Tottenham are one of the exciting teams in Europe.
The north Londoners are just five points adrift of table-toppers Manchester City, having played a game less. Regardless of what happens this season, Pochettino should strengthen every department of his squad over the summer transfer window.
One of the areas he should focus on reinforcing is the midfield. Mousa Dembele’s departure to China in January has left a huge void in the Tottenham midfield.
That coupled with injury problems to Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama has seen Pochettino go with the pairing of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko in central midfield.
And while that plan has worked very well, there is a clear need for the club to replace Dembele after the end of this campaign. Sassuolo’s Alfred Duncan would be a brilliant fit for Tottenham and Pochettino should make a move for him.
Alfred Duncan, 25, has been in good form for Sassuolo this season, contributing with three goals and three assists from central midfield in 16 Serie A games.
The Ghanaian’s consistency and versatility for Sassuolo, along with his tremendous technique and work rate has made him one of the Serie A’s best players this campaign.
The 25-year-old has showcased his pace and power in the middle of the park, ability to win back possession quickly, drive with the ball from deep and a clever understanding as to when to release the ball. Duncan is great at recycling the ball and pressing, whilst possessing the capability to go on and score goals for his team.
If Tottenham can bag the signature of Duncan, Pochettino will have a solid anchor to build his team around which in turn will give license for the flair players like Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli to freely pass and move around.
The Ghana international covers a lot of ground due to his pace, energy and determination, and has the potential to be a top class player in the future.

Duncan has all the ingredients needed to take the Premier League by storm and his signing could simply take Tottenham to a different level altogether. That said, Spurs should not be scared of paying too high a price if the team can be improved.
