According to reports in the Sun, Premier League champions Manchester City are considering a move for French champions Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman was a part of the Manchester City youth team set-up in 2008 and could be delighted if the club offers him a chance to return a decade later.
The 23-year-old is quite an experienced player for his young age, winning 17 trophies with PSG, which includes four Ligue 1 titles and four domestic cups. At the current point in time, the player is rated around £45m.
However, he is out of contract next summer and has not signed an extension with PSG. This gives the clubs a chance to reach a pre-contract agreement in January.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City would most certainly require a commanding midfielder sooner than later. The main reason being Fernandinho (33) and David Silva’s (32) increasing age. Here’s why Rabiot would be a perfect signing for the Cityzens:
Rabiot is a perfect player when it comes to playing in a passing football system. He is a versatile midfielder, who can ably contribute playing as a No.8 or as a No.6. Dipping into his stats from last season, the Frenchman had a pass success rate of 92.2% in the league, an attribute which is important to the philosophy deployed by Guardiola.
He won 1 aerial duel per game on an average, which indicates that he can protect his centre-backs if the opposition plays route one football. Simultaneously, it makes the 23-year-old a dangerous prospect from set-piece situations.
Talking about work rate in Guardiola’s system – a necessity for any player, Rabiot can also cover the ground well when not in possession. In addition to these qualities, the Frenchman has a tackle and interception rate of 1.8 and 1 per game respectively.
This makes him a complete midfield player ready to take on the big stage and prove his world-class abilities.

One thing is clear – if Pep Guardiola is considering a move for a certain player, he must be world-class or at least on par with the current Man City stars. Considering Rabiot’s abilities, it is safe to assume that he has the qualities required to succeed under a manager who leaves no inch untouched.
