West Ham should try everything to sign Bruno Fernandes

A story by Sky Sports suggests that West Ham have made a £20million bid for Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Bruno, who plays for Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese league, has been on the radar of the premier league sides recently.

It is believed that one other premier league club is also on the case of Bruno and Atletico Madrid from Spain are rumoured to be interested as well. Sensing the interest in their player, Sporting have decided to hold out for a higher fee in excess of £25million.

Let’s analyse if West Ham should really splash the cash on Bruno or would they be wise to look elsewhere.

West Ham do need a creative midfielder

The lengthy and unfortunate injury of Manuel Lanzini has left West Ham shorthanded in the creative department. Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyaté are decent midfield options for the Hammers but none of them is capable of providing a creative spark in the midfield.

Bruno Fernandes

The situation means that the new manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has his work cut out as he needs to address the problem before the upcoming season gets underway.

West Ham have already been linked with a number of midfielders including the likes of Jack Wilshere and Yaya Toure.

Bruno Fernandes has been fantastic

Although Sporting Lisbon couldn’t challenge for the title in Portugal as they finished 3rd in the table, Bruno was a shining light for his club throughout the campaign. The player finished the season with 17 goals and 12 assists, which is a tremendous return for a central midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno was crucial for his club across various competitions as he was selected as the man of the match on 8 different occasions during the season.

It’s safe to say that Bruno had a good enough season to warrant a move to a bigger club than Sporting Lisbon.

The complete show-runner from the midfield

Bruno is a really accomplished midfielder who does it all in the middle of the pitch. Whether it is threading a through ball, taking on a player or helping his team with an interception or tackle, Bruno is adept at doing it.

While averaging 2.2 key passes per game, the Sporting Lisbon midfielder also won almost 2 tackles per game last season to showcase his diverse skillset. Bruno is also an able dribbler of the ball as he completed 1.5 dribbles per match. These numbers show why West Ham are pursuing the midfielder.
