Go for it Guardiola – Why it is the right time for Manchester City to make a move for this Bayern Munich Superstar

Robert Lewandowski has been in the thick of some huge transfer rumours in recent weeks, especially after he appointed Pini Zahavi as his new representative.

Zahavi’s involvement in PSG’s record-breaking move for Neymar last summer added fuel to the reports regarding Robert Lewandowski’s wish to leave Bayern this summer. The Polish international is being linked with some of the biggest heavyweights in European football, which includes the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

However, a few other English heavyweights could also join the race for the Bayern Munich superstar this summer, with Neil Ashton of Sun reportedly linking Premier League leaders Manchester City with a move for Robert Lewandowski.

Even though Lewandowski’s current contract with Bayern expires in 2021, a move to Manchester City could make sense for the Polish international.

The Sky Blues have arguably been the best team in Europe this season, having a whopping 16-point lead over second-placed Manchester United at the top of the Premier League charts. Following a rather disappointing debut season under Pep Guardiola, the Manchester giants have come out all guns blazing this season.

While they have already secured the Carabao Cup last month, beating Arsenal 3-0 in the final, Pep Guardiola’s men also registered a convincing 4-0 win over Basel in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout round match.

However, that being said, the Sky Blues could be in danger of losing their prized attacking asset in the shape of Sergio Aguero, with Real Madrid hugely interested. The Argentine has been their top-scorer this season, notching up an incredible tally of 21 goals in just 24 appearances in the domestic league. And despite the presence of Gabriel Jesus, coach Pep Guardiola might be tempted to go after another striker in the summer in order to replace Aguero and that’s where Lewandowski comes into the fray.

The Bayern Munich superstar could be an ideal addition to Manchester City next season. Not only does he have the quality but he also has the experience of playing in the top flight, as well as in the UEFA Champions League. Therefore, he should have no difficulties in getting used to the conditions in the Premier League.

Furthermore, Lewandowski has also worked under Guardiola during their time together at FC Bayern. In fact, the Catalan played a key role in developing him into the player he is today. Lewandowski thrived under Guardiola’s positional play, which allowed the Bayern players to create a bulk of chances in the final third, ultimately helping the 29-year-old to be more prolific in front of goal.

Known for his all-around qualities in the offensive department, Lewandowski boasts of all the skills a modern striker could hope for. Furthermore, he’s quite prolific in front of goal while his work-rate in the final third is absolutely astonishing. And that makes him ideal for Guardiola’s footballing ideology.

Therefore, the Sky Blues should definitely make an audacious move for the Bayern Munich striker, should they lose star striker Sergio Aguero this summer.
