Go for it Emery – Arsenal signing this 21-year-old rising PL star would be a brilliant move

Why Arsenal should definitely make a move for Ben Chilwell

Despite their recent surge in form, Arsenal were made to settle for a point against Crystal Palace this weekend. The Gunners have otherwise looked brilliant under Unai Emery, who has quickly instilled his philosophy into the team. Arsenal now look very much capable of fighting for silverware.

But recent weeks have brought to light the growing left-back issue in their squad. Nacho Monreal is now 32 years of age and will soon experience age taking its toll. Sead Kolasinac has failed to live up to the standards as well, after making the move last season.

Over the last few weeks, Unai Emery has resorted to using Stephan Lichsteiner at left-back while the manager deployed Granit Xhaka of all people against Crystal Palace; such is the desperation down the left flank.

Emery can take a look at Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell. The English defender has risen to prominence over the last year and is now one of the hottest prospects in the country. According to the Independent, Leicester City have handed the youngster a new deal, but Unai Emery must definitely take his chances and make the move.

Ben Chilwell

Though Arsenal swept past Leicester City earlier in the month, Chilwell was in superb form against the Gunners. The 21-year-old played a major role in his team’s first goal as he daunted past the speedy Hector Bellerin before seeing his cross take a deflection off the Spaniard and end up in the back of the net.

He is a very mobile full-back, which is exactly why he would be a perfect fit for this Arsenal team. Chilwell possesses the drive and the energy to trouble defenders down the flank. He has great awareness on the pitch and very carefully chooses his moments to charge.

Chilwell has averaged a pass success rate of 75.5% in the Premier League this season and rarely has he given away possession in a cheap manner. As shown against Arsenal, the youngster is also very good at stretching defenders and dragging them out of their zones. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Ben Chilwell

Should he sign for Arsenal, the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would receive ample space to make their runs. Chilwell is also very good at sending deliveries into the box and has been very unfortunate not to pick up any assists so far.

Leicester City will definitely play hardball as they would aim to keep a hold of their rising star. But Unai Emery can offer the prospect of not only playing regular football but also competing in Europe. Chilwell will be a great addition to this side which is not too far away from being complete.
