Arsenal are one of the most inconsistent teams in the Premier League. At times they play like a team that should be challenging for major silverware and at times they play as if they are a team that should be in the bottom half of the Premier League standings.
This is perhaps why the Gunners currently struggle to qualify for the Champions League. There are some areas in the squad that need some reinforcements and below are two players who they should consider signing during the summer in order to beef up their squad.
Petr Cech is now approaching the end of his career and looks to be past his peak, while David Ospina has never really looked like he could be long-term first choice material.
At 6ft 5in, Butland is one of the finest shot-stoppers in the Premier League and also has good distribution skills. At 24 years of age, he will surely be feeling that the time is right for him to move on from Stoke and play for one of the biggest clubs in England.
Although Stoke’s statistics will suggest that Butland is not performing well, there is no doubt that he would do a better job in goal right now than Cech and Arsenal should seriously consider signing him this summer in order to beef up their backline.
Cech would turn 36 this year and while he could carry on at the highest level for another few years, he needs competition from a quality keeper if Arsenal are to re-establish themselves as one of the top sides in England.
The Ivory Coast international Seri was linked with a move to Arsenal throughout last summer but they eventually decided against signing him. Arsene Wenger thought that his midfield was good enough but given the way that they have been performing this season, Wenger really should have pushed harder to sign Seri.
Though Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey looked to have formed a formidable partnership in the Gunners midfield last season, they have struggled for consistency this season. Seri would certainly be a good addition to the Arsenal side. He has an excellent passing range and can carve open defences with through balls, picking up the ball from deep and finding a run from the fullback.
In addition to this, he has a good tackling ability and is capable of breaking up counter-attacks in the midfield. He is versatile and can also play any midfield role; versatility is something which Xhaka lacks. With Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly interested though, the Gunners could face very strong competition to sign the 26-year-old.
