Glen Johnson Gone, 3 Right Backs Liverpool Should Look To Sign This Summer

Share

Liverpool fans, well at least a few of them got some good news today after a disastrous season, Glen Johnson finally left the club. The 30-year-old, who has often felt the ire of the Liverpool fans on social media, especially did not renew his contract with the club and left on a free. He would probably find a few suitors but that has left Liverpool with even more problems as they not only lost out on an experienced campaigner, they also lost the one right back that they have played consistently over the past few seasons.

Emre Can did deputise as the right back for most of the second half of the season but that is not his best position and Liverpool will have to work hard and fast to get a good right back for next season. We try to list out 3 right backs that Liverpool could target next season, which could be extremely important for Rodgers’ future at the club.

1. Micah Richards

The English centre back and right back was at one time expected to become one of the best defenders in the English game, sadly things do not go as planned and he was loaned out from Manchester City to Fiorentina. He hasn’t done the best at the Italian club either and would be returning back to the Premier League, with his contract possibly not being renewed, he could join up Liverpool as part of the free agent brigade. Rodgers has always admired Richards and the Liverpool manager could help get the defenders career back on track.

2. Nathaniel Clyne

Nathaniel Clyne

Liverpool have tried to sign yet another Southampton star, after the signatures of Lovren, Lallana and Lambert, Clyne could follow his teammates to Anfield. The right back had a brilliant season for the Saints last season and is almost sure to leave the club for a bigger one this summer. The question actually revolves around him waiting for the right moment or club to come. Clyne was so impressive last season; he even broke into the national set up and represented England. Clyne is also being tapped by Manchester United, and so Liverpool would have to try much harder than the £10 million they bid on this upcoming star.

3. Andre Wisdom

Liverpool already have a couple of replacements for Glen Johnson in their team. Jon Flanagan unfortunately, missed all of last season with an injury and hopefully he will be fit again for next season but Andre Wisdom is already playing top flight football and was out on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season. The English right back would be hoping for a crack at the vacant position next season as Liverpool have had a history of giving chances to young players, this could be his opportunity.
