As per reports, Premier League newcomers Fulham are set to make an audacious swoop for Bordeaux’s highly-rated winger Malcom. Inter Milan are also interested in the 21-year-old, having already tabled a package consisting of an initial season on loan.
Malcom, 21, burst into European recognition last season when he racked up 12 goals and 7 assists in 35 appearances for Bordeaux in the French top-flight. The Brazilian’s brilliant form saw him garner interest from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were also alerted.
However, Bordeaux remained reluctant in selling their prized asset in January and Malcom stayed back, guiding the club to a surprise sixth-place finish under Gus Poyet the last term. After a solid finish to the Ligue 1 season, the Bordeaux top-brass are prepared to do business and value Malcom at around £45m.
One of the most sought-after young talents across Europe, Malcom would be a fantastic addition for Fulham. The Cottagers have already pulled off a coup out of nowhere to sign highly-rated Jean-Michael Seri from OGC Nice. Following the purchase of Seri, the west London club must go all out to bag Malcom.
Malcom is a highly-versatile attacker, who can play on either wing or in an attacking midfield role. However, he thrives while playing on the right-wing which allows him to drift inside before punching a shot with his hammer of a left-foot. It remains to be seen if Slavisa Jokanovic chooses to play the U23 Brazilian international on the right or left-wing but the 21-year-old would have no problem in doing either.
Adept at attempting long shots, Malcom’s key strengths are his searing pace and dribbling abilities. He can find his teammates quite easily and that helps him maintain a sense of fluidity in the game. The 21-year-old can hold on to possession quite well and seems to have innate goalscoring instincts which can truly help him flourish in Fulham colours. The Brazilian’s trickery, imagination, pace and selflessness make him a joy to watch.
However, Malcom is not a complete player yet. He is not as influential as he is bound to become in the future but he can achieve that under the watchful eyes of Slavisa Jokanovic. The Brazilian would have the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League, which will make him a well-rounded player.
At the age of 21, Malcom has his best years ahead of him. If Fulham can pull off a deal and beat the stiff competition for the Brazilian’s signature, they will surely have a gem in their ranks.
