The Premier League finally entered the festive period or what we call the business end of the current calendar year, as yet again we witnessed jaw dropping action, mesmerizing goals and most importantly brilliant all round Football. As Liverpool reached to the top of the table (as of now), Tim Sherwood’s reign in Tottenham began on an auspicious start, Stoke City got a home win against while Hull City also made the headlines. Manchester United continued their fine mini run while Fulham though had a shocker yet again as City asserted their Championship winning credentials, while the relegation battle is getting hot already. So here are the four things we learnt for the Premier League weekend action:

Liverpool stormed to the top of the table:

Yet another mastercalss form Uruguayan Luis Suarez ensured Liverpool climb to the top of the table, albeit a 3-1 win against Cardiff at Anfield. The Merseysiders are in red hot form, with Suzrez scoring an fine brace and providing the assist for Raheem Sterling’s tap in. Suarez who last week signed a mega new contract with Liverpool, to stay at the club till 2018 showed utter brilliance, wizardry and football beyond imagination as the home side just clobbered the travelling Cardiff City side to pieces. If Suarez manages to play like in the coming games, two huge away tests against Manchester City and Chelsea, Liverpool have perhaps a claim for this season’s Premier League trophy.

Manchester United continue their fine run, but it gets marred by diving controversies:

David Moyes is perhaps finally getting his message right to his Red Devils squad. The defending Champions produced a solid professional performance to brush aside West Ham by 3-1 at the Theatre of dreams, now getting their fourth win in as many matches. However, it’s perhaps one of those seasons when controversies do go hand in hand when it might have seemed that the situation has calmed. David Moyes, though is an unlucky man! Adnan Januzaj was booked for a blatant dive which nothing else but Ashley Youngesque. The youngster has started his professional career in a blitzkrieg but it perhaps is one of those moments, when Moyes needs to take him aside, explain and clear the nuisance rather than defending him.

Manchester City asserts their title credentials, but are they still good travelers:

Yes, the Citizens produced a matured performance to beat a resilient Fulahm side at the Craven Cottage, their defence still seems patchy. Fans however, would claim what’s the harm to concede two when we score four or five? Football, though is a funny game and Mnauel Pellegrini is wise enough to know that. City are improving handsomely in their travels and need to continue the same pace going as their home performance to claim the Premiership crown come next May.

Tim Sherwood, Emanuel Adebayor and the battle of the lower halves:

Stoke City grabbed yet another home win brushing Aston Villa by a 2-1 margin but Sunderland’s time is surely running out. The Black Cats disappointing scoreless draw against Norwich means they are sinking further in the last place as Gus Poyet’s merry go round might not be working properly. Talking of the fortunate have-nots, Newcastle produced another class act to thrash Crystal Palace by a 3-0 margin at Selhurst Park. But the talking point till Sunday would be on two men: Tim Sherwood and Emanuel Adebayor. Spurs, under a new era, beat a well oiled Southampton side by a 3-2 scoreline as Togolese Adebayor came out of wilderness to score brace and the winning goal against the Saints. For Mauricio Pochettino though, the current slide in form would be more than just worrying.
