Why This Former Golden Boy Awardee Could Replace Cazorla At Arsenal In The Future

Share

Arsenal’s raid on the La Liga for quality stars could continue when the winter transfer window opens in January. Mustafi and Perez arrived from the Spanish league over the course of the summer transfer window, and the former has settled well into the squad, and now a member of the starting lineup.

Spain international and out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Isco could be on his way to the Emirates by the turn of the new year as the Gunners are keen to add him to their attacking ranks.

The 24-year-old has been sparsely used this term, and his future at the Bernabeu has never looked this bleak. An EPL switch has always been on the books in recent reasons, up until summer, and January could be when he finally decides to pursue greener pastures.

Tottenham, Manchester City and United are also all reportedly interested in landing the former Golden Boy. Arsenal’s interest in the versatile midfielder hinges on the fact that he brings a lot to the table, and even though he has often been a bit-part player since arriving the capital club 3 seasons ago, his quality can’t be questioned and it’s believed with more playing time, he has a chance to blossom into one of the best players of his generation.

And here is why he could help add more directness and creativity to the Arsenal lineup.

He brings a lot of versatility to the table

Isco is as versatile as they come, and that exceptional quality of his comes handy in an Arsenal side.

Under Manuel Pellegrini during his formative years at Málaga, he played as an attacking midfielder (10) cum 2nd striker (8). His natural abilities on the ball mean he is always at home in this favorite position of his.

However, upon moving to Madrid, manager Carlo Ancelotti played him in a deeper midfield role and primarily as a playmaker. This inadvertently saw him put more efforts into the defensive part of his game. And he did excel.

Due to his pace, vision, and passing abilities, Isco is also able to wreck havoc to opposition defence on the flanks. His mastery of over 4 different attacking roles makes him a Jack of all trades and master of all.

Could replace Cazorla in the long-term

At 31, the midfield maestro is approaching a stage where putting up with the constant demands of playing week in and week out across major competitions. With that period imminent, his young compatriot could be the one to take over – slowly, gradually and finally.

Both share similar patterns of creativity, ability to hold possession of the ball and distribute pin-point passes to the attackers. Preparing for life without the ever-efficient Cazorla could start in earnest if Isco is acquired. It’s a perfect like-for-like switch.

With enough time to adapt to the rigours of the EPL just like Cazorla had to do upon his arrival 4 seasons ago, making the transition from the ageing midfielder to Isco, who’s approaching his peak years will be smooth.
