Forget Terry And Cahill – Chelsea Need To Move On And Look To Sign One Of These 3 Defenders

Share

It was in the late January that a shock news just spread like wildfire in the west side of London where Chelsea Football Club’s captain, leader and legend John Terry announced that he will be departing at the end of the season and he’ll be seeking pastures anew! Chelsea’s refusal of lending him out a contract is evident and with Terry unlikely to stay it looks like Chelsea do have to get themselves involved in the market and rope in a world class defender who will ideally have to fill in the shoes of such a big hero, simply admired by the Chelsea fans.

Amidst all this, here are three proper Centre Backs who Chelsea can rope in and bolster their defence and gain depth.

1) Neven Subotic

*Six appearances throughout the season, it’s been a really frustrating campaign for the lanky Serbian Centre Back Neven Subotic who’s under Thomas Tuchel’s Dortmund right now. Irrespective of what Subotic has done over the years, somehow the Serbian finds himself to be out of the frame under Tuchel and only a move outside is expected to be good for him. Liverpool have been previously linked with Subotic due to Klopp’s connection but if Chelsea really do need him, they can hurry up and wrap up the defender. Watching his game-play the Serbian shows great leadership quality and control over the ball. He also maintains a really strong presence over the ball and keeps the forwards in check. Aerially as well subotic provides plus points and although he’s not very pacey, he is a brilliant reader of the game. Along with all this, Subotic can see out passes and provide some gorgeous balls over the top!

*Statistically speaking, Subotic has 34 appearances for Dortmund in the past two seasons. He has scored only two goals but he has created 13 chances for the club. He has an average passing distance of 22 metres and a passing accuracy of over 80%.  Subotic has won 60% of the duels which is an incredible amount for any defender and along with this, he’s made up to 9 crucial interventions preventing the opposition from scoring.

Another advantage for Chelsea will be the possible partnership of Branislav Ivanovic and Never Subotic! The Serbian pair if put together is really intriguing.

2) John Stones

Chelsea’s interest in John Stones was pretty clear in the transfer window when things between Everton and Chelsea was known throughout the world and Chelsea’s apparent interest regarding John Stones still hasn’t died down. The Everton starlet is still 22 and there are several reasons I’d like to state in brief as to why Stones must choose Chelsea and Chelsea must go for him.

* Stones will replace John Terry. A bright young English centre back replacing one legendary one. It will be perfect.

* Stones has higher chances of winning silverware with Chelsea than with Everton.

*He can form a vital partnership with Kurt Zouma and ease his chances of being a regular starter.

Statistically speaking this season, Stones has made 23 appearances for Everton this season with an average passing accuracy of 89%. That’s a whopping achievement. Apart from this, Stones has made 63% of the average duels and has made 6 vital interventions to save his side.  Stones has a bright future ahead and shows great promise as well as talent and Chelsea should really try their best to get the player. He’s the most perfect of the three centre backs I’m mentioning here about.

3) Aoas Correa Marquinhos

Marquinhos is another frustrated defender in the Paris St.Germain squad who isn’t getting game time on a consistent basis although he’s made 20 appearances so far in the season. Aged just 21, Marquinhos is one of the finest upcoming centre backs in the world and in France, he’s already announced himself and developed largely as a player. A move away from France with assured game time would do good for the Brazilian!

*Marquinhos has a really impressive passing accuracy of 93% and has won 50% of the average duels including an average passing metre length of 16 metres.

*Marquinhos is versatile as well, because he can play the position of a full back.

*Marquinhos has market value of 22 million Euros right now and his contract length is up until 2019 so it definitely means Chelsea have to shell out a large portion of their transfer income on him but I feel he’ll be worth it!
