Forget Signings – 5 Players Manchester United Should Sell This Summer

Share

Manchester United have had a mixed season this year and the fans have expressed their disappointment in large numbers. While many have blamed Louis van Gaal for United’s bad form, many have also blamed the current set of players. Even though United have reached the finals of the FA Cup, they are still struggling hard to finish in the top 4 of the EPL. They also showed meagre displays in the Champions League and Europa League. Fans feel that the current bunch of United players don’t show the passion that is required to wear the famous red jersey. Fans feel that the current bunch of United players don’t show the passion that is required to wear the famous red jersey. Keeping that and their form in the current season, we look at 5 players that United should try to get rid of in the summer.

Michael Carrick-

A United legend for many. And it’s true to be honest. Carrick is one of those warriors who never got enough credit for the great service he has rendered till now. But he hasn’t been the same for almost 2 seasons now. While last season he still had good passing skills, this season he has just been poor. His passes lack speed, creativity, and he has been quite slow on the ball too. Van Gaal still prefers to start him in most matches and honestly, it doesn’t seem to be the right choice. Carrick has struggled against fast paced teams like Liverpool, Tottenham etc and it’s about time Manchester United bids adieu to its once great warrior.

Phil Jones-

Another one of those Fergie prodigies. He has never looked the same since Ferguson left. To be honest, he has hardly been seen in a United shirt for a series of games for quite some time. Injuries love him and they never seem to let go of him. He was expected to be a future leader of any defense he plays for and that’s exactly the reason why Alex Ferguson signed him for Manchester United. But we have seen him just go down with his performances and it’s about time that United sell him and get some fresh legs in to the squad. He was expected to form a formidable partnership with Smalling for years at Manchester United, but has failed to do that every time he gets the opportunity.

Memphis Depay-

The Dutchman was expected to be the next big thing in the World of football. But as luck may have it, he didn’t. Who is to be blamed for that? Well, no one else but him. His laid back attitude is something that has angered many fans over the globe. He is a perfect example of a player who just doesn’t seem to understand what it means to wear the famous United jersey. Even though he produced a world class performance in the return leg against Midtjylland, that was all he did to impress the fans. He has been consistently poor in most of the matches and has done absolutely nothing on the field at times. He has not just justified the 25 million that United has paid for him and with few clubs still interested in him, it’s the perfect time to sell him off. Many might disagree and say that the youngster needs some more time, but his attitude is something that really doesn’t fit United.

Marcos Rojo-

Much was expected from the Argentine when he joined Manchester United. Many expected him to be the next big thing in United defense. Well he joined United after a successful time with the Argentine national squad with whom he had reached the World cup finals. But he has been just average till now. There were hardly one or two matches where he produced brilliant performances. While last season he looked a little bit better in the left back role, this season he has just been bad there as well. Rojo has made a number of positional errors in most of his matches. When he is used in a centre back role, he has often produced mistimed tackles and sometimes just looks way too uncomfortable marking opponent strikers. To be honest, I don’t think he himself knows what he does on the pitch at times. Rojo’s best role is the extreme left position in a 3 man defense. That was the mantra that gave him and Argentina success in the world cup. Almost no team plays a 3 man defense in the premier league and as such Rojo just doesn’t suit the EPL style of play.

Marouane Fellaini-

Quite a common name, isn’t it? His name has been doing the rounds for quite a while now. He just hasn’t been the same since he joined United from Everton. At Everton, he was a beast tormenting opposition defenses. At United he is another one of those players who just doesn’t seem to know what his role is on the field. Even though he got the first goal in the FA Cup semi final and was good all throughout the match, he has been less than average in most of the games. He has been seen doing silly tackles, giving slow passes and getting unnecessary bookings. Is that the kind of player Manchester United pay 28 million for? No, they don’t. Fellaini has looked like a burden on the field at times and more often a disappointment. Well, I personally feel that’s its’ about time Manchester United parts way with the Belgian.
