Forget Signings – 3 Players Arsenal Should Sell This Summer

Share

Arsenal have had a busy  2015-16 season as the team yet again failed to capitalize a great chance of winning the league this year and the manager had no answers for that. The team had the perfect squad this season and had a perfect opportunity to grab the title as all the other contenders slipped on their way in the pursuit.

Players did a fantastic job (sometimes) in the league but, jokes apart, what about the next transfer window ? Surely, Wenger will be looking to strengthen his squad in some departments so someone from the team may have to make their way. Arsenal have some aging players who enjoy most of their time either on the bench or out injured. Arsenal had a great history of having many great midfielders of all time but times have changed and have changed drastically. Let’s face it, the team has no aggression that Viera and Pires had. Players are playing great but you need some aggression while you play in the premier league.

What if Arsenal has a full fit squad? I do believe that there are some players who Arsenal should sell in this coming transfer window and will be discussing on the same.

Mikel Arteta-

Mikel joined Arsenal on 31 August 2011 on a reported fee of a reported fee of £10 million. He was bought to replace the previous number 8 of the club Samir Nasri who left the club for Manchester City.

The Club captain Mikel Arteta is a highly important player for the team both on and off the pitch, well that is what the club claims. Arteta started his career as a defensive midfielder and then eventually started to play in the more attacking role. He always has a calm and assertive influence in the middle of the park.

With 100 fouls committed against him in the 2006-07 season, he was the most fouled player in the Premier League.  Being a Spanish star, he has the ability to deliver pin-point crosses in the box. He has the vision but let’s face it, as some good signings arrive in the club he won’t be able to play for the club for long. In this season, he has made just 8 appearances for the club is really not the player he used to be.

He was the prince of the midfield in his days but honestly, those days are gone.

Tomas Rosicky-

Arsène Wenger described Rosický as having “great technique, skill on the ball and sharp passing. He was a great and a solid playmaker for the team. There was something special about the player that Wenger caught and brought him at the club. He had a remarkable vision and a quality touch but all is fading in the recent times for the player. He was the all-rounder in the midfielder who brings balance, organisation and urgency to the team. But that was mentioned 3-4 years back.

In the recent times, the Czech star has been struggling to stay fit and play a normal game for the club. At the age of 35, this player had made very few appearances for the club. Made 15 appearances last season and have not appeared in a single for the Gunners this season’s Premier League.

If the new talent is brought in the club then for sure, he will have to leave the club and the club will not think of about taking a second opinion as the player is degrading as his age is escalating.

Mathieu Flamini-

Flamini joined Arsenal in 2004 after rejecting Marseille’s long-term senior contract. The following season he was mostly used as a substitution but eventually gained the position due to the injured players.

He then moved to Milan on 2008 but ultimately returned to Arsenal. Currently, he is now in the third season of his second spell at the club after re-joining it in 2013.

This player usually played as defensive midfielder and sometimes as a central midfielder. Mathieu impressed at left-back in Arsenal’s 2006 Champions League run. He was also praised for his fantastic work rate. But at 32, there is not much left for him at the club. Coquelin and Elneny have eventually stolen the positions from the veteran player and then again, Arsene Wenger will surely bring some more creativity in the team next season and Flamini may not have any other option other than leaving Emirates this Summer.
