Three Managers Who Crystal Palace Can Consider As Sam Allardyce’s Replacement

Sam Allardyce has enjoyed quite a topsy-turvy year, to say the least. First came the England job, where he lasted just over a game before having his image tarnished by being ousted from the job. That coincided with Pardew being sacked at Crystal Palace and Allardyce was called upon for another rescue act.

Allardyce has the rare feat of never being relegated with a club and that is a testament to his class and working methods. He’s enjoyed some decent success, of course, first winning the League Two title with Northampton and the League One title with Sheffield United this term. Such exploits have seen him being linked with a top-flight job.

Wilder is a long shot by far, but is still a worthy candidate, as seen by Allardyce himself. The lower leagues of football aren’t the easiest to manage in and Wilder has done more than well to win titles in consecutive seasons. Wilder used the minimum resources available to him and put them to good use and it’s possible that with a lot more funds and support, he could achieve bigger things and stabilize the ship at Crystal Palace.

Garry Monk

The defender turned manager managed to catch the eyes of the football world when he took charge of Swansea first on an interim basis and then permanently. Monk was still 35 and a baby in terms of coaching age, but he took it upon himself to keep the club up, as Swansea kept their heads above water, which saw him get rewarded with a 3-year contract.

He didn’t last long though, as he was sacked following a poor run of just 1 win in 11 games. It was quite a disappointment as he had done quite admirably after replacing Michael Laudrup at the helm. He eventually took over at Leeds United, almost leading them to promotion, only failing to finish in the play-off places on the last day of the season. He would do quite well at Crystal Palace, given the squad that they have at the moment. Still only 38 and always keen on expanding his managerial prowess, Crystal Palace could be the perfect opportunity for him to manage in the Premier League again.

Claudio Ranieri

By far the most outrageous managerial link so far is the one that links Ranieri to the job. But then again, even claims that Leicester could win the league title were also branded as outrageous. Ranieri did fantastically well to lift the Premier League title with Leicester City. He instilled a special belief in them and the title win is regarded as more than just a miracle.

Whether he could do the same at Palace is something that’s debatable, but the least they’d expect of him would be to steady the ship and ensure that the club doesn’t spend another season struggling for survival. Ranieri is a very special manager and having a man of his calibre will certainly make the players stand up and take notice of their talents. He has nurtured talents like Vardy, Mahrez, and Kante excellently and could do the same with the set of players Crystal Palace currently own.
