Forget Pochettino – Why this Champions League winner will be a perfect fit for the Chelsea job

Share

Chelsea’s form has oscillated very rapidly in recent years as they witnessed epitome of success with Premier League title glory but failed miserably to defend the honour which eventually resulted in managerial alterations. The Blues only managed a 5th-place finish this season, missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League.

Conte reiterated his discontent regarding the club’s transfer policy after failing to land his preferred options and the ex-Juventus and Azzurri boss is expected to be replaced by another high-profile name within the next couple of months.

A few names are already being considered as his successor but the profile of Luis Enrique would be the most enticing one. Maurizio Sarri, the current Napoli boss, has been heavily linked to a switch to West London but is staying put at Naples as per latest reports, therefore, widening the way for Enrique, who is now ready to return to management following one year of sabbatical.

The former Real Madrid and Barcelona attacker had a glorious managerial realm for the Catalans where he won La Liga twice, the prestigious Champions League trophy, three Copa del Rey titles along with Supercopa, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup during his three-year tenure.

Luis Enrique

The experience of top-order and an exciting brand of football make Enrique a prime contender for the Chelsea job, who is tipped to inject stability as well as consistency at Stamford Bridge with some high-profile summer signings.

The Blues, meanwhile, were turned down by several of their transfer targets last summer, who either plied their trades elsewhere or opted to continue for their current sides. This has to be a worrying sign from club’s perspective but the appointment of Enrique is likely to restore the reputation once more. He will be able to draw an array of exciting names to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s new signings – Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ross Barkley, Antonio Rudiger and Davide Zappacosta, failed to live up to the expectations whereas the club continues to sweat over the contract situation of Belgian duo Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.

Although the management have registered their interest in Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, the young Argentine will be a big gamble despite his stupendous success at Tottenham.

The expectations will be much bigger at Chelsea and the profile of Luis Enrique ticks all the boxes to take charge of this esteemed football club.
