According to reports in the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele is set to quit north London and make a mega-money switch to China in January. Beijing Sinobo Guoan, who made an attempt to sign the Belgian earlier this year, are confident of striking a deal this time around.
Tottenham rejected the offer last time but with Dembele’s reluctance to sign a new deal being very clear, they might be forced to sell the player in January. The Belgian’s contract runs out next summer, so he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any overseas club in 2019.
Sun further states that the Chinese club will offer around £8m to £10m for the player, with a lucrative contract wage pack of £192,000-per-week for three years. Currently, Dembele is at £80,000-per-week at Tottenham, so he would most certainly be lured when a club offers such big money.
However, for Tottenham, it would be a bad move as Dembele is a quality player. Here’s why it will affect Mauricio Pochettino’s men:
In the current scheme of things, Spurs are short on options in central midfield, and if Dembele leaves, they will be forced to buy someone in January. Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama will remain as the other three options, of which the latter is injury-prone and the former has just returned from injury and is quite young.
Given that the club couldn’t afford to sign even one player in the summer, it is highly unlikely that they would spend on a new midfielder in January, knowing the fact that the stadium construction is taking time.
Tottenham must make sure that Dembele stays at the club to help them become better, with the new stadium set to be completed.

Selling a quality player like Dembele to the Chinese league would be a very bad move by Pochettino. And the only solution is to offer a new contract with improved wage numbers, which would be enough for the player to stay.
