Forget it Levy – Tottenham appointing this Italian as Pochettino’s replacement would be a blunder

Why Tottenham Must Avoid Appointing Ranieri As Pochettino’s Replacement

According to reports from France, Tottenham Hotspur are lining up Claudio Ranieri as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino. Reports have surfaced suggesting that the Premier League club could target Ranieri if Pochettino leaves White Hart Lane.

Ranieri is currently in charge of French club Nantes, where he is in the midst of a poor run of 7 games without a win in Ligue 1, following a 2-0 defeat to Montpellier.

Famously known as ‘The Tinkerman’, Ranieri was mocked during his stint with Chelsea but he firmly established himself as a legend in the Premier League during the 2015/2016 season when he guided Leicester City to a fairytale title.

He masterminded the Foxes to a surprise title win, which went down in the Premier League folklore as one of the most surprising chapters to ever happen.

Last season though, Leicester unceremoniously sacked Ranieri and the Italian left England for France, where he is currently managing Nantes. Despite a fine start, Nantes are currently undergoing a rough patch with the club lying 10th on the table. They are safe but are enduring the worst spell of no wins in seven games.

Speaking about Spurs lining up Ranieri as the man to replace Pochettino, it is nothing but pure madness. Pochettino has brought a sense of stability at Tottenham despite failing to get his icy hands on silverware. He has rebuilt the team and has made the Lilywhites as one of the exciting teams to watch in entire Europe.

Assembling the right mix of young blood and experienced professionals, Pochettino has developed a team capable of beating any side on their day. For all good reasons and exciting football that Tottenham have played under Pochettino, trophies have still eluded the Argentine.

Spurs looked ready to build on their previous seasons’ success but they failed miserably to challenge for the title. It is a different case that Manchester City have been a unique beast altogether this term and have wrapped up the title without any fuss.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have lacked the mental strength and character to overcome difficult situations.

Pochettino’s boys had a wonderful chance to reach the FA Cup final but after going 1-0 up against Manchester United, they lost 2-1, which ended their quest for silverware.

However, the loss against United in the FA Cup semi-finals doesn’t make Pochettino a tactician short of ideas and tactics to challenge for trophies. He is considered as one of the top young managers across Europe.

The Argentine is simply the best manager Tottenham could have ever dreamt of after appointing the likes of Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood.

As we often say, lack of stability is never good for the development of an ambitious club and it is important that Tottenham hold on to Pochettino at all costs and not consider appointing Ranieri even if the Argentine leaves the club.
