Forget Fraizer Campbell – Here Are 3 Quality Replacements Crystal Palace Should Look To Sign

Three Strikers Who Crystal Palace Can Target To Replace Fraizer Campbell

Crystal Palace striker Fraizer Campbell is a transfer target of Premier League newbies Huddersfield Town as per reports from The Sun as he reaches the end of his contract, with the Eagles showing no signs of offering him a new deal.

The 29-year old joined Palace in the summer of 2014 from Cardiff City but hasn’t been able to establish himself as a key part of the team at the Selhurst Park. This past season, Campbell made only 13 appearances, scoring just a single goal. Since his move, the former Manchester United academy man has made 50 appearances for Palace, finding the back of the net on just 8 occasions and will leave the club as a disappointment.

With Christian Benteke and the injured Connor Wickham the only two strikers at Palace’s disposal, they will need to bring in a new face to replace the exit-bound Campbell and here are three options that they can consider.

Benjamin Moukandjo (FC Lorient)

The 28-year old has been on the radar of the Eagles if the reports from the Daily Mail are to be believed. Moukandjo has spent his entire footballing career in France and has had two strong campaigns for Lorient since joining in 2015.

The Cameroon international finished the season with 13 goals from 25 Ligue1 appearances – close to 30% of their 44 goals, but could not save the club from relegation. With just one year left on his current contract, it will not be a surprise if Lorient look to cash in on him. An established player for the Cameroon national team, Moukandjo has scored 8 times in 47 international appearances and was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. A good dribbler and finisher, he could prove to be a shrewd addition.

Diego Falcinelli (Sassuolo)

The 25-year striker spent the season out on loan at Crotone and had a decent campaign, finishing with 13 goals from 35 games, helping them to just avoid the relegation with a 17th placed finish. Falcinelli scored a whopping 39% of Crotone’s goals in the Italian division.

The Italian made his debut for Sassuolo back in 2009, but has since been on a series of loan spells and as a result, has managed just 11 appearances for the team. He recently signed a long-term contract with the club that runs until the summer of 2020, but considering that he has hardly been able to break into the team, Sassuolo may consider selling him. Falcinelli may not be the biggest of the names, but he has shown that he can deliver the goods and could be a risk worth taking for the Eagles.

Fernando Torres

This one would be an over-ambitious approach but Palace can look at the option of signing Fernando Torres too in the summer. The former Liverpool man has struggled to find his best form since leaving Anfield and had disappointing spells at Chelsea and AC Milan.

However, he did manage to get some goals upon his return to Atletico Madrid, proving that he still has it in him. He finished the season with 8 goals and 6 assists from 44 games and with the Colchoneros not looking to extend his contract, he will be available for free this summer. He may not be the force that he used to be but with his wealth of experience, he could be a good option to have in the ranks.
