Three Ideal Doucoure replacements for Everton to stick an eye on
Everton, despite spending millions last summer under Ronald Koeman, failed miserably to perform, which eventually led to his dismissal.
The appointment of Sam Allardyce as his successor saw the Toffees stage a comeback and secure a place in the top-half of the Premier League standings but his negative brand of football was once again a subject of familiar criticism and the outrage at Goodison saw the experienced Englishman lose his job at the end of the season.
The Merseysiders took little time to find his replacement and appointed Marco Silva as the new Goodison chief. Everton are yet to make any signing under their new boss but are chasing multiple names simultaneously and bringing in one esteemed central midfield star should be a priority.
Silva is reportedly keen on a reunion with Watford‘s Abdoulaye Doucouré but saw a bid rejected by the Hornets, hence, might dive into the market for an alternative, with several resources available elsewhere.
Here are three such resources who Everton can target.
Current Club: Barcelona
The Portuguese international was acquired by the Catalans in the aftermath of his incredible UEFA Euro triumph in 2016. But the young midfield ace has failed to justify the hype and has seen his game time reduce significantly last season under new boss Ernesto Valverde.
He has not been included in Barcelona‘s US tour and Everton must seal a cut-price deal before other suitors.
They are already in talks with Barca regarding the transfer of fringe duo Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina but should prioritise a move for the exiled midfielder who is still young and has the potential to revive his career under the careful guidance of fellow countryman Marco Silva.
Current Club: AC Milan
The Azzurri international has been linked with a move to Everton and the Toffees must not let it slip considering his quality and experience.
The 27-year-old midfielder spent the previous season on loan at Genoa and with less than 12 months left on his contract with the Rossoneri, Bertolacci is tipped to be available for a bargain fee and will bring physicality in the midfield.
He has strong holding traits, drags opponents to create space for his teammates, is clinical while tackling, provides appreciable defensive contribution and reads the game well from a central role.
Bertolacci will add more depth and strength in the midfield and Silva, hence, should start his summer shopping by securing the signing of the Serie A star.
Current Club: Juventus
The promising midfield star of Italian football saw his progress stall in the last couple seasons due to a lack of opportunities for the star-studded Bianconeri and a move, therefore, is on the cards amidst interest from fellow Premier League counterparts West Ham United, Leicester City and Newcastle United, with the latter are having an edge above the other two.
Sturaro is also being chased by La Liga duo Villarreal and Real Betis, and the Toffees should join the chase to upgrade their show in the midfield.
