Forget Dembele – Here Are 3 Long-term Replacements For The Belgian Who Tottenham Can Target

Tottenham Hotspur have made a mixed start to their league campaign and will have to work hard if they are to challenge for the title this season alongside the Manchester giants and Chelsea, who have made excellent starts to the season. Mauricio Pochettino has a decent squad at his disposal but his midfield is something that needs to be strengthened if his side are to maintain their dominance.

The likes of Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier have done a decent job while young Harry Winks has shown enough promise but one player who is slowly fading away is Mousa Dembele. The Belgian international is one of the best in his position in England but is now 30, and not going to excel in Pochettino’s system for long. So here are three long-term options that the Argentine should look at, to replace the former Fulham man:

Ross Barkley (Everton)

The English youngster is one of the most exciting players in his position in the league at the moment and is unsettled at Goodison Park, Spurs were interested in his signature in the summer and are keeping tabs on him, to try and steal him on a free transfer at the end of the current season. Reports claim that Pochettino wants to use the 23-year old in a deeper role and his attributes are perfect for Spurs to replace the Belgian in the long-term. His experience in the league will also come handy.

Wylan Cyprien (Nice)

Though not a household name even in France, Cyprien is a technically gifted box-to-box midfielder, who, though is not as creative as Dembele, is as much industrious as the Belgian. He had a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 last time around and at just 22, is a star for the future. Pochettino is good at nurturing young talent and can turn Cuprien into an important player for the club in the near future, if Spurs bring him in.

Sergi Roberto (Barcelona)

With all the quality that the Catalan giants have in their ranks, young Roberto has not been able to get enough game time under his belt and has constantly been linked with an exit. Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in the versatile Spaniard but Pochettino should also keep an eye on him. Roberto’s ability to play in any role on the field is a unique quality which, added to his pace. dribbling skills and his understanding of the game make him a dangerous player. Surely, he can be a more than able replacement for Dembele for the North London outfit.
