Three Replacements For David Stockdale Who Brighton Can Target

Given David Stockdale’s own fine ability, replacing him with a better player (if doing so within the UK) will have to be done by buying from the Premier League.

This won’t be easy, or cheap, but there are some definite possibilities for Brighton, who will no doubt prove attractive, now that they are a Premier League side. Here we look at three possible players who could fill Stockdale’s shoes:

Jordan Pickford (Sunderland)

The 23-year-old England hopeful has been relegated with Sunderland but is sure to want Premier League football next term and beyond. His average rating out of 10 for last season according to Whoscored.com was 7.04, putting him on top of the bunch of Sunderland’s regular performers.

Getting a high rating is hard for a goalkeeper as they stand idle for long periods of time. So when they make a mistake it is always noticed, so his overall mark is not to be taken lightly. Pickford is undoubtedly a top-class ‘keeper in the making and would have proven very expensive had Sunderland stayed up. However, he could now be bought at a reasonable price, especially now that David Moyes has resigned.

Tom Heaton (Burnley)

Although Burnley survived this season they would seem to still be in danger next term, especially if they were to lose Andre Gray and Michael Keane.

Heaton’s overall mark was 6.88 in the league this season, 5^th overall at Burnley, and is another who has been in and around the England squad. Bigger clubs than Brighton have shown an interest. However, if they do not come forward with a firm offer by the end of August, then Heaton could join some other club. Brighton are a club who can nip in and secure his signature.

Darren Randolph (West Ham)

It’s not what their fans expected after moving into the Olympic Stadium, but these are now tumultuous times at West Ham. Something is not right there and it looks increasingly easy to get players out of there for the right fee.

Randolph, rating 6.61 overall, was just behind fellow goalkeeper Adrian in that regard, having played just a few games more. The jury has been out as to which one is the better ‘keeper and if West Ham can’t choose which one is best, then someone else could be getting the benefit of one of them and Randolph would be a good fit for Brighton.
