Barca comfortably shredded Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach apart in their last group stage game for this season’s Champions League on Tuesday night, as goals from Messi and Arda Turan helped the Blaugrana to a routine win.
Here is a breakdown of how Barcelona players got the job done in the pretty one-sided affairs :
Made his Champions League debut for Barcelona and had nothing to do as the visitors recorded no shot on target.
He, however, demonstrated his calmness on the ball and passing abilities.
Rating : 8/10
Returned to action for the Spaniards after months of inaction, but showed no sign of rustiness.
Was only on the offensive all game, and he supplied dangerous crosses into the opponents’ box, assisting Turan’s 2nd in the process.
Rating : 8/10
Put in quality work winning the ball back and beating off the few challenges the Borussia attackers posed on the few occasions they got the ball.
Definitely a good buy for Barcelona.
Rating : 8/10
Bullied the Germans anytime they managed to make it to Barcelona’s half, and almost caused a penalty after appearing to trip Hahn inside the box.
Rating : 8/10
Did much of the offensive work on the left wing and supplied crosses into the box – including one that met Messi’s head only for Sommer to deny the Argentine of equalling Ronaldo’s 11 group stage goals’ record.
Rating : 8/10
Displayed his quality and why he has a chance to get more regular playing time with a calm and creative performance in the heart of the Catalans’ midfield.
Threw some nice and precise passes Xavi would be proud of.
Rating : 8/10
Not a very eye-catching or standout performance from the Euro 2016 winner, but kept possession well and completed some few dribbles.
Did well to play a pivot role, though.
Rating : 8/10
Got some playing minutes to speed up his match-fitness process, and he ran circles around Monchengladbach’s players in the midfield.
Would almost be impossible to replace in the future.
Rating : 8/10
Scored his first ever Barcelona hat-trick after having assisted Messi’s opener.
If he puts up such performances on a consistent basis, Enrique will have no choice than to create a place for him in the starting XI.
Rating : 9/10
Looked bound to meet and break Ronaldo’s record after getting a goal in the 16th minute, but later dropped deep occasionally upon Iniesta’s withdrawal and didn’t force himself to get goals.
He still found a way to torment the opposition defenders, though they always swarmed him up anytime he came close to their box.
Rating : 8/10
Providing Turan’s 3rd goal was the highlight of what was another below-par showing from the former Valencia goal-machine.
Didn’t do enough to get to a long pass from midfield which the Swiss goalie rushed to clear, and also had an attempt saved.
Rating : 7/10
Replaced Iniesta after 1 hour and only made some few passes here and there.
Rating : N/A
Spent just 15 minutes after coming on to replace Turan and had nothing much to contribute.
Rating : N/A
