Crystal Palace Player Ratings vs West Brom – Here’s how the Eagles fared

Andros Townsend scored a terrific goal to help Crystal Palace breeze past West Brom at the Hawthorns and progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The winger scored a brace, the first of which was an absolute belter from 30 yards out.

Patrick van Aanholt scored 15 minutes from time to give the away side a cushion before Townsend netted another to mark a fabulous day for Roy Hodgson’s men, who finished the game 3-0. It was a professional and solid performance from Palace, who were without their talisman Wilfried Zaha, who was rested for this game.

Crystal Palace Player Ratings

Vicente Guaita (6)

Made a couple of routine saves and was comfortable in claiming the crosses. Was hardly tested.

Joel Ward (7)

Started at right-back but moved to central defence due to an injury to Riedewald. Made some good tackles and interceptions.

Martin Kelly

Martin Kelly (6.5)

A secure and solid presence at the back. Was not really put into pressure by the West Brom attackers.

Jairo Riedewald (5)

Was given an opportunity to showcase his worth but unfortunately, the Dutchman had to go off very early in the game.

Patrick van Aanholt (7)

Went forward at every given chance and caused trouble. Scored a good goal to seal the tie.

Jason Puncheon (6.5)

A very solid performance from Puncheon in the midfield. Got booked for breaking up a West Brom counter-attack.

Cheikhou Kouyate (7)

A calm, composed and authoritative performance from the Senegalese in central midfield. Never gave the ball away.

Max Meyer

Max Meyer (7)

Very neat and tidy with the ball and showed signs of linking up with his teammates. The German’s movements were good as well.

Jeff Schlupp (7)

Was a constant threat to the Baggies defenders. Should have scored to make it 2-0.

Andros Townsend (8.5)

Scored a magnificent first goal, put in a devilish cross for Schlupp. The winger capped off his performance with another goal late on.

Alex Sorloth (7)

Laid it off for Townsend’s first goal and looked bright. However, the Norweigan was a little off the mark with a couple of chances he got.
