Why Everton should sign Eder Militao in January

According to the Sun, Everton are interested in making a move for FC Porto full-back Eder Militao in January. The Toffees have been tracking the defender after his impressive appearances for the Portuguese outfit this season. He helped Porto earn a 1-1 Champions League draw at Schalke and then beat domestic rivals Vitoria Setubal 2-0.

But according to the report, Everton have to cough up £17million to land the defender who joined Porto this summer. But a move for the talented youngster would be a wise one from Everton manager Marco Silva. (Sun)

The Toffees are rebuilding under the new coach and have already spent a considerable amount in bolstering the squad. But Everton could still use one or two more signings to ensure stability and ample depth in the squad.

At the age of 20, Eder has shown immense potential and maturity in his display. He is definitely an enticing option to have in the squad. The Brazilian is predominantly classified as a right-back but is also comfortable playing as a central defender.

He possesses pace, energy and directness on the ball. The full-back is also a diligent defender who is determined to stop anything that comes in his way. It’s that kind of attitude that always helps defenders flourish in the Premier League.

The right-back is also very calm and composed in possession. He is extremely simple in his game and excels at safely playing out from the back. The former Sao Paulo defender is also very strong in the air, posing a massive aerial threat going forward as well.

He scored a goal and an assist for Sao Paulo in the league last season and was a constant threat for defenders during set-pieces. He has also averaged a pass success rate of 89% in the league this season and averages 82.7% in the Champions League. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Everton could really use a defender like him given Seamus Coleman’s fitness has not been the best of late. With Jonjoe Kenny too failing to make significant impact, Eder could be the man to step up and make the role his own. Granted, the Brazilian has no previous experience in the Premier League, but he definitely possesses all the qualities to flourish under Marco Silva.
