Three Replacements For Ronald Koeman Who Everton Can Target

Everton have been in the news ever since the summer transfer window rolled up. They shelled out £140m on recruiting new players but unfortunately, things did not work out the way Ronald Koeman may have expected it to. The last straw for the management came when the club lost to Arsenal 5-2 over the weekend, following which Koeman’s sacking made big headlines everywhere.

Now, with Koeman gone, David Unsworth has been named the interim manager. Unsworth has been widely successful as the manager of the U-23 team and it will be interesting to see how he guides the Toffees. While this may prove to be a temporary solution, Everton do need a permanent manager quite soon. Whoever takes up the job will have an uphill task of building the team from scratch and then maintaining the squad further. With potential names being flung about everywhere, who should really take charge of the club?

Let’s take a look at three candidates who are worthy of the spot.

David Wagner

Often compared to Jurgen Klopp in terms of his style and tactics, David Wagner was in charge of Borussia Dortmund’s academy prior to leading Huddersfield Town to the Premier League. The Terriers currently play an aggressive style of football and last weekend, that led to a shock yet well-deserved win against Manchester United.

David Wagner

The fact that he led Town so well into the Premier League, and is continuing to lead them towards victory is exactly what Everton need right now. However, leading the Toffees at this time will be tough, especially since he already has established an effective rhythm with Huddersfield.

Paulo Fonseca

Fonseca has been linked with taking up a role at Everton ever since rumours of Koeman’s possible sacking floated about. Currently at the helm of Shakhtar Donetsk, Fonseca also has served stints at Porto and Braga.

While his style is attractive, Fonseca’s history makes him something of a risky choice. In the cases of both Porto and Shakhtar, Fonseca inherited clubs that were already quite strong, who were expected to win and win big. It’s arguable that Everton need more of a stabiliser in the dugout but having said that, Fonseca’s teams play exciting, attacking football, which could seem enticing for the Merseyside club.

Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche

What Sean Dyche has done for Burnley is nothing short of a miracle. Currently at 8th spot in the league standings, Burnley are just one point behind Newcastle United. Undoubtedly, Dyche has a strong reputation in England. Moreover, he is famous not just for the fact that Burnley are winning matches – he has earned a solid reputation solely because of the way he has rallied the team to where they are.

He consistently sets up his side in a 4-4-1-1, and is known for making his squad hard to play against. While that might seem drab right now, Everton could use a little edge to their game.
