Saido Berahino has failed to establish himself as a quality player at Stoke City since his arrival at the club but new manager Gary Rowett is reportedly willing to hold talks about his future.
The 24-year-old Berahino has been with Stoke for 18 months so far and yet, he has failed to score a single goal. However, it looks like Rowett could be willing to give him another chance. Despite being aware of his lacklustre displays, the Potters boss has not completely ruled him out of the squad for next season.
Stoke bought the former West Bromwich Albion striker back in 2017 but the move has proven to be a complete failure. The player struggled for game time in the recently concluded campaign, which in turn, affected his form.
The Potters have gotten relegated to the Championship and given the circumstances, the club must aim for promotion next season. To win the second-tier competition, Rowett will need all hands on deck and it is understandable for him to consider Berahino as an option.
Over the years, the lack of a quality striker has been a key issue for Stoke. In fact, Peter Crouch is their only true striker but the former Liverpool man is nearing 40.
Rowett’s arrival has presented the club with a brilliant opportunity to start afresh but they need a new striker. And it remains to be seen if Berahino is able to rise up to the occasion.
In reality, he didn’t receive adequate playing time to make a difference but honestly, he should’ve scored at least a couple with the minutes he was allotted last season.
However, considering the gargantuan task at hand for Rowett and Stoke, Berahino must exit. There are better strikers available in the market and it would be better for the new manager to bring in a fresh face instead of relying on someone who has failed to deliver the goods for the longest time.
Thus, Stoke can move forward only if they let Berahino leave this summer.
