The Steven Gerrard revolution is in full swing at Ibrox as Rangers recently ended Hearts’ winless start to the season by beating them 3-1.

Rangers are slowly gathering pace in the Scottish Premiership under Steven Gerrard, who was appointed in the summer to take the club back to the top. Gerrard oversaw a flurry of signings over the summer as he shaped his squad, making the team worthy enough to challenge Celtic for the top prize in Scotland.

Heavy investment was indeed needed at Ibrox and Gerrard made it, however, the manager now needs to think about offloading a few of his surplus players to balance the books.

After spending almost close to four months, Gerrard would have a really good idea of his squad and the players he needs to keep to continue his fight to end Celtic’s dominance in the Scottish Premiership.

Keeping that in mind, here are two Rangers players who should be offloaded in January.

Lee Wallace

Lee Wallace has returned to the Rangers first-team after spending almost a year on the sidelines. Wallace, 31, was out since September with a groin injury and was also suspended and fined in April after he and Kenny Miller were involved in a dressing-room dispute with former boss Graeme Murty.

Following last season’s 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Celtic, it appeared as if the 31-year-old’s Rangers career was over but that hasn’t been the case. Wallace has been thrown a lifeline by Gerrard but the Rangers manager has omitted the left-back from the Europa League squad.

Wallace has made only one Premiership appearance this season and finds himself way down the pecking order with the likes of Borna Barisic and Jon Flanagan preferred at left-back. It is clear that the Scotsman has no future at Ibrox and he should find a new home in January.

Jordan Rossiter

Jordan Rossiter’s Ibrox career has been plagued with various injuries ever since he joined Rangers from Liverpool two years ago.

Rossiter’s hopes of relaunching his career under Gerrard have not gone according to the scripts and he finds himself out of favour now. The 21-year-old too has been omitted from the Europa League squad and the midfielder has managed only one appearance, which came in the League Cup.

Rangers have a plethora of midfielders now and Rossiter finds himself nowhere near the first-team this season. He is rarely involved in the matchday squads these days as the Gers have found adequate resources in the midfield.

As things stand, it is clear that Rossiter has no future at Rangers and Gerrard must get rid of him in January.
