Do it Gerrard – Rangers must hand their summer signing a regular place once the international break ends

Why Eros Grezda should be a regular starter for Rangers

Albanian winger Eros Grezda announced himself to the Scottish Premiership last weekend as Rangers gunned down Motherwell 7-1 at the Ibrox.

Eros Grezda, 23, signed for Rangers on a four-year contract from Croatian club from NK Osijek in the summer. It is fair to say the high-flying winger has endured a slow start to life at Ibrox due to a long-term injury problem.

The injury held him back for some time and the speedster had to build up his fitness and sharpness before stepping on the pitch.

And last weekend, he showed why Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was so keen to sign him, playing magnificently in the 7-1 mauling of Motherwell. Eros Grezda was a constant menace down the right flank, combining excellently with skipper James Tavernier.

He capped off an excellent performance with two good strikes on Sunday and that surely must have delighted Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard.

The Albania international was lively and caused the opposition a lot of problems whenever he got the ball, signalling his real arrival as a Rangers player. Grezda played with a lot of confidence, aggression and swagger.

After showing flashes of talent in earlier games, he finally put in a complete show. So what should Gerrard do after the international break? Should he hand Grezda a starting place or should he use him from the bench?

It is high time Grezda starts games for Rangers, now that he has finally put an end to a frustrating injury that held him back for so long. The Albanian was one of Osijek’s outstanding talents and arrived at Ibrox amidst a lot of fanfare.

He couldn’t live up to his early promise but now that he has attained full fitness, Gerrard must give Grezda a run of games to stake his claim for a first-team place.

Grezda gives the Rangers attack a lot of pace and directness. Due to his versatility, he can play on either flank or through the middle.

The Albania international’s unpredictability and the sudden burst of acceleration is something the Scottish Premiership defenders would seriously want to avoid as it takes Grezda only a matter of seconds to get past his man and leave him for dead.

The 23-year-old’s primary attributes are his pace, dribbling and finishing. He backs himself to take on the defenders with his explosive speed and has the ability to change the direction in the blink of an eye.

His end product might be frustrating at times but Grezda backs his ability to take on his man and often succeeds in beating them with his pace. Furthermore, he uses his instincts to get on the end of passes and has a deadly eye for the goal.

Alfredo Morelos has established himself as the Gers’ indispensable weapon in the final third this season. Morelos has been the go-to man for Rangers in each and every game and Gerrard’s team might find themselves in big trouble if the Colombian ace gets sidelined with an injury.

That’s where Grezda would come in handy as his involvement in games will not only lift the burden off Morelos’ shoulders but will also add a different dimension to the Rangers attack.

Hence, it’s high time Grezda gets a run of starts for Rangers after the international break.
