Disappointing Silva – The Bad And The Worst Rated Man City Players From The 2-1 Loss vs Shakhtar Donetsk

The scoreline might suggest that Manchester City’s unbeaten streak came to and end against Shakhtar Donetsk as the club beat them 2-1 in a Champions League encounter last night. However, it was quite evident from the very beginning that the club were just doing what they had to and playing just for the sake of it.

After all, they have already qualified as group winners and they have a colossal Manchester derby coming up this weekend. Although they lost last night, it will not affect City by any means. That said, let’s take a look at the player ratings.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson – 6.5/10

The fact that he was starting did come as a surprise but the player was largely responsible for Ismailly’s goal. Besides that, he was just going through the motions, much like every other City player on the field.

Danilo – 4/10

This was a good chance for him to prove himself to Pep Guardiola but Danilo blew it. He was weak at tackling and lacked positional awareness, which created a lot of trouble for City.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 6/10

He was involved in both of Shakhtar’s goals and looked like a let-down initially but he then rallied himself to show some signs of improvement.

Eliaquim Mangala – 5/10

If Adarabioyo started weakly and improved, Mangala started on a strong note but his performance started deteriorating. There was little he could do as the opposition started dominating him.

Fernandinho – 7/10

He started as a centre-back, which prevented him from influencing the match like he usually does. However, he did show signs of composure and soldiered through.

Phil Foden – 7.5/10

Foden became the youngest player since Cesc Fabregas to represent an English club in the Champions League. He was deployed as a wing-back and the player worked hard to create chances.

Yaya Toure – 6/10

Toure tried to make things happen in the midfield area but Shakhtar simply seemed like the stronger team in the middle.

Ilkay Gundogan – 5/10

Much like Toure, Gundogan failed to get things going in the midfield. He also could not make things happen in the forward areas.

Leroy Sane – 6.5/10

He did look threatening at times but nothing came of it. Sane was then withdrawn around the hour mark by Guardiola, presumably to keep him fresh for the Manchester derby.

Bernardo Silva – 4/10

Silva was ineffective up front and did little to offer support to Sane and Jesus. He did show some signs of brilliance but that was not enough to justify his price tag.

Gabriel Jesus – 5/10

The player is in dire need of a goal. His power seems to be waning at the front in terms of goal-scoring. Besides that, he was decent enough but one must remember that his main job is to score goals.

Brahim Diaz – 7.5/10

Diaz injected some much-needed sharpness into City’s attack.

Sergio Aguero – 7/10

Aguero played the cameo role that Guardiola needed and took a late penalty to ensure Shakhtar did not walk away with a clean sheet.
