According to a report in Standard, Premier League side Chelsea have offered Italian giants Napoli a chance to sign striker Michy Batshuayi on loan, with an option to buy.
The Belgium international has failed to get regular game time at Stamford Bridge, since making his move to England in the summer of 2016 for a fee around £33m. (h/t Guardian)
He has had spells on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and recently at Crystal Palace before again returning to Chelsea colours.
From what we have seen so far, it seems clear that the Blues boss Frank Lampard is keen on giving game time to Tammy Abraham and keeping Olivier Giroud as a back-up.
But as mentioned in the report, Napoli would like to sign Fernando Llorente, who is on a free at the moment and would demand lesser wage due his age (34). (h/t Standard)
Nevertheless, here’s why Chelsea are on the right track if they want to offload Batshuayi sooner rather than later:
Since arriving in England, we have never seen the Batshuayi we expected while he was playing for Marseille in France and taking scouts around Europe by storm.
In terms of his attributes, the Belgium international has everything a good striker must have, but it seems as if his work ethic towards the game hasn’t been good enough to excel in the Premier League.
Looking at the situation from this point of view, it is good for him to change the club and move to where he can settle in quickly and start scoring goals like he used to do.
From Chelsea’s viewpoint, they can have a chance to offload a fringe player, on whom they spent a lot of money to excel, but didn’t work out.
The Blues’ decision to sell/loan out Michy Batshuayi is the right move. If Napoli reject their chance to sign him, the London-based club should look for other clubs to sign the player.
