Why Tottenham should do everything it takes to hold onto Harry Kane

According to Skysports, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has once again emerged as a target for Spanish giants Real Madrid. Los Blancos were linked with a move for the England captain over the summer but the Spurs star ultimately signed a new bumper six-year contract with the club.

Real Madrid have started their season in dreadful form and are winless in 4 games under new manager Julen Lopetegui. The Champions League winners have also failed to score in all 4 of those games and desperately need a new hitman in their side.

Kane has been one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League over the last few years. He has topped Spurs’ goalscoring charts in each of those seasons. There’s no way Mauricio Pochettino can afford to let go of his talisman this season given their inability to spend in the market as well.

Spurs became the first team in the history of the Premier League to not sign a single player in the summer transfer window. Their proposed move to a new stadium this year has taken a significant toll on their spending ability.

The 25-year-old has scored more than 25 goals in each of his last three seasons, achieving his personal best of 30 goals last season. He is one of the most determined and devastating forwards in the world right now.

If Spurs do decide to part ways with their star striker this season, it will direly cost them given the Lilywhites already have a lengthy list of absentees due to injury. Kane is the focal point of this team and Pochettino relies on the England captain for goals.

Take Kane out of the equation and there’s no guarantee if Spurs would have made it to the top-four in the last few seasons. The English striker also picked up the Golden Boot on two consecutive occasions until Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah trumped him to the prize last season. However, the 25-year-old Kane did go on to lift the prize at the World Cup, topping the goalscoring charts.

There is no way can Tottenham afford to let go of their talisman at this point and Pochettino must do everything to hold onto him. Fortunately, Spurs have slammed a £200million price tag on the striker, which should help them put off a number of suitors. Even if the Blancos are willing to pay that mammoth amount, Spurs must do whatever it takes to keep hold of him.
