Rangers v St Johnstone Match Report: Rangers Match Report

Rangers missed a chance to narrow the gap up top after they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by St Johnstone at the Ibrox. Steven Gerrard’s men were without star striker Alfredo Morelos and they struggled to have attempts on goal on a regular basis.

In fact, their second-choice keeper Wes Foderingham had to make a couple of decent saves from Chris Kane and Joe Shaughnessy to avoid an embarrassment. This stalemate leaves the Gers five points behind leaders Celtic, having played a game more. It is clear that their bid to chase the Hoops is getting bleaker week after week.

Jermaine Defoe was fit enough to start instead of Morelos but he wasn’t effective enough. The only good chance in the first half came from a Conor Goldson header, which was hit straight at the Johnstone goalkeeper.

Daniel Candeias tried his best after half-time, and had a dangerous low cross pushed aside by the keeper. Then a timely interception denied Defoe with a chance to shoot, and Candeias then lashed his chance over the bar.

Throughout the game, Rangers managed only one shot on target, which shows their lack of creativity to really test the Johnstone keeper.

All in all, a disappointing afternoon for Gerrard and his men. The title chase isn’t getting any easier with every passing week.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this game:
