Confirmed: Chelsea Complete January Transfer For Defender

Chelsea centre-back Dion Conroy has recently signed for Swindon Town on a two-and-a-half year deal after being recalled from his loan spell at Aldershot Town by Chelsea. The League One side has tied him down till June 2019 for an undisclosed fee.

Conroy came through the academy system at Chelsea, but failed to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club. He only just returned to Stamford Bridge from a loan spell at National League side Aldershot, where he played in 15 league games.

The 21-year-old made 17 appearances for Gary Waddock’s side since joining the Hampshire club on loan and made the central defensive spot his own, impressing with skipper Callum Reynolds.

He only had his loan spell extended in December, but Swindon saw enough of the centre back to make a permanent offer for Conroy to play at a higher level than the National League. The recall leaves Shots boss with a selection headache ahead of their National League tie with York City, but it is expected Will Evans will fill the centre back slot with new loanee Callum Buckley finding a place on the bench.

In a statement, the Blues stated, “We would like to thank Dion for his service and wish him the best for the future.”
