Comparing Christian Eriksen With The Man Who Is Linked With Tottenaham – Who Comes Out On Top?

Franco Vazquez seems to be the one player that Mauricio Pochettino seems to have picked out for Tottenham this season. While talk of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexandre Lacazette has slowed down, the Palermo midfielder could be the one player who makes the first move to London this season.

Vazquez can play in a range of positions and it should not be a surprise that Pochettino chose him ahead of other stars due to this versatility. He can even play in attack on either wing and that would mean a lot of competition for those spots.

Christian Eriksen was one of Tottenham’s best players last season, probably one of the best attackers in the Premier League as well. It would be tough thinking of replacing the Dane, after all, he has slowly become an integral part of the Tottenham side and will look to kick on and improve upon his contribution to the team as well.

Can the Italian do well in England?

Vazquez, as stated is more of a midfielder than an attacking wide man, so comparing the two would be tough. He however, does not have a better pass completion than Eriksen in the league campaign; the Dane comes in with an 82% completion rate compared to Vazquez’s 77%.

Even though Vazquez plays more in midfield, his contribution to the attack is limited as he only chips in with 1.33 key passes per 90 while Eriksen comes in with 3.10 key passes per 90 minutes. A surprising stat that pops out is that Eriksen actually has more passes per game also with 55 compared to just 39 for Vazquez every 90 minutes.

One attacking stat where Vazquez just about beats the Tottenham star is in scoring goals as he averages 0.23 goals per 90 minutes compared to 0.18 for the Dane.

Vazquez is better at tackling and completes 2.01 per 90 minutes compared to just 1.26 from Eriksen but that is expected since he plays in the midfield. The Italian is also better at taking on players with a 60% success rate in take ons compared to 53% for the Danish attacker.

All in all, Vazquez does seem to be a decent enough signing for Pochettino and his team. He might not be a world beat and at 27-years-old, he certainly won’t be enhancing his game as much as the much younger Eriksen but Spurs need quality in their side, especially on the bench and Vazquez can be the man for the side next season.
