Petr Cech- Did not get too many opportunities to showcase his class against a lesser side. But did not show any signs of nerves or flaw whenever he had to be in the action.

Ratings 7/10

Branislav Ivanovic- More than for his defensive actions, he is to be remembered for his attacking instincts from this match. Got scoring opportunities a number of times going forward and also created a number of chances for his teammates.

Ratings- 8/10

Ashley Cole- Not tested enough by Hull. But held his ground in the limited opportunities. Went forward occasionally.

Ratings- 6/10

Gary Cahill- Like the other defenders, not troubled much. But displayed nice aerial abilities.

Ratings- 6.5/10

John Terry- The captain led the side with authority and guarded Graham with panache. The backline depended on him for inspiration and he led them from the front.

Ratings- 7.5/10

Ramires- The most lively of the defenders, this Brazilian dictated terms from the centre of the field. He was as effective in the defence as going forward. Covered a large area on the pitch served the ball to the attacking options with precise.

Ratings- 9/10

Frank Lampard– The veteran missed a penalty in the beginning, but more than made up for it with his long range stunning goal from a free kick. Was always a threat going forward.

Ratings- 8/10

Oscar- The Brazilian was the player on the pitch with the best off the ball movements which saw him get into wonderful positions. This tendency of his was the main reason for him scoring the an accurate goal from a De Bruyne pass.

Ratings- 8.5/10

Kevin De Bruyne- Impressed everyone with his debut match for the Blues. Supplied an immaculate pass to Oscar, which was converted into a goal. But looked over enthusiastic at times and wasted a number of opportunities with rushed shots.

Ratings- 8/10

Eden Hazard- Not as effective as the other midfielders, but played some nice balls nevertheless. Made some nice movements and showed some sparks with the ball.

Ratings- 7/10

Fernando Torres- Not very effective in the front. Looked out of place. With this sort of a performance from him, Lukaku would have no trouble in breaking into the first team.

Ratings- 5/10

Substitutes:

Andre Schurrle- Made his debut in a Chelsea jersey. Played with intensity for the 30 minutes that he spent on the field. Almost had his name on the scoresheet.

Romelu Lukaku- Spent 15 minutes on the field. Did not get too many opportunities.

Ratings- 6/10

Marco Van Ginkel- Another debutant. Came with just 5 minutes left. Did not have much to do.
