Manchester United have lacked a right winger. They’ve needed a right winger on the team for a long time now and surprisingly even since Sir Alex Ferguson’s ending years and also in the era’s of both Moyes and Louis Van Gaal, the managers have needed a right winger and especially the point of missing one gets highlighted under Van Gaal where the gaffer chose to play Mata on the right winger role and we all know very well that Mata provides well centrally, not from the right.
In an outrageous rumor that has come floatingly ahead recently is the rumor linking Chelsea’s player of the year Willian with Manchester United and with United confirming the arrival of the ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, we look at how Willian’s apparent re-union with Jose at the Threatre of Dreams is perfect for United even though I am pretty sure that it isn’t going to happen any time soon or it’s never going to happen.
Chelsea had a frustrating season starting off under Mourinho himself and the only player who played his heart out and outperformed everyone else was Willian. Like a silver lining on a dark cloud, the Brazilian gave the Chelsea faithful his name to sing and cheer. Curling in free-kicks, running rings around defenders, take-ons and making runs laced with pace, Willian did it all. Be it at the left or the right, the winger is efficient in every aspect and a club like United will lose nothing on getting a player like him but eventually it is only their gain.
Statistically speaking, this season, in 35 appearances for Chelsea Football Club in all competitions, Willian has contributed to the goal tally with his 5, but he’s created a whopping 81 chances.
How will Willian suit United?
As I pointed out earlier, United do lack a pacey right winger and that can be said mostly after Nani left. Jesse Lingard is still a raw talent that needs moulding and he has a way to go and with Antonio Valencia preferably played at the Right Back position, Manchester United for me should go for a right winger or promote one of the youth players like Pereira or Januzaj. Mourinho doesn’t have a massive reputation for choosing youth players as to how it’s made out by several pundits and hence buying a right winger looks like the only option.
If the deal happens, Willian would enliven this midfield and he will provide that spark from the wings. Coupled with the attacking forays of Antonio Valencia, I can suddenly see this right wing become a crucial threat for the opposition.
If Willian is open for a move and if Jose’s at the helm then this deal may go through and I repeat, this deal will bring only the positives for United.
