After being dropped from Chelsea’s squad due to undisclosed reasons, Diego Costa may well be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. The London club managed to overcome Leicester with two goals from Marcos Alonso and a late header from Pedro to earn the three points but Conte has already begun looking for replacements for the striker.
There have been similar reports at Bayern as Germany star Thomas Muller has fallen down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti this season and admits he is unhappy in Bavaria.
The 27-year-old has scored just one league goal this season compared to the 20 he netted under Pep Guardiola last term. He was dropped for Bayern’s crucial clash against RB Leipzig in December. And now, The Daily Express suggests that Chelsea are plotting a £75million offer for Germany World Cup winner Muller as the saga surrounding Costa rumbles on.
Costa was involved in a training ground bust-up with Antonio Conte before the Blues’ trip to the Midlands. And his future at Chelsea is hanging in the balance after the Premier League’s top scorer told pals he will do anything to force a move during the transfer window.
Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes is currently in China looking to secure a transfer for the striker.
This has forced the Blues into the market themselves for a new forward.
However, Conte played down the issue and stated,
“The club doesn’t inform me about this so I don’t know anything about this.
“I think that if there are problems, I prefer to solve the problem in the changing room and not in the press conferences. I said if there are problems.” Added Conte.
Chelsea’s title hopes will be in tatters if their 14-goal hitman leaves Stamford Bridge and they fail to find someone to fill his boots.
World Cup-winner Muller could be the club’s best option at the moment as he warms the Bayern bench. Muller is contracted to Bayern Munich until 2021.
