Chelsea Vs West Brom – Player Ratings

A crazy decision in the injury time by referee Andre Marriner enabled Chelsea to snatch an undeserved 2-2 draw against a stupendous Baggies side at the Glittering Stamford Bridge here on Saturday night. While Ramires blatantly dived to win the penalty, through which Hazard scored in virtually the last kick of the game, West Brom shocked everyone when they took the lead for the time albeit a Stephan Sessengon goal after Shane Long’s header restored parity cancelling out Samuel Eto’s’s opener.

Here are the player’s ratings from the match:

Peter Cech: produced the blunder of the match letting Sessègnon’s feeble shot between his hands.

Rating: 2/5

Ivanovic: A very ordinary performance from the Serbian, lacked width, failed to provide crosses, was caught out during counter attacks.

Rating: 2/5

John Terry: Overall was assured at the back except when he allowed Sessègnon to cut back for the goal which gave Baggies the lead

Rating: 2.5/5

Gary Cahill: Chelsea’s best man in defence, was assured at the back and was the vital cog in the wheel for the home side, did well to resist opposition attacks

Rating: 3.5/5

Azpilicueta: Playing out of position would always have bothered him, playing opposite  Amalfitano exposed it completely.

Rating: 2/5

Lampard: Very ordinary performance given his standards, also picked up a yellow, was very static and lacked the movement to barge up front.

Rating: 2/5

Ramires: Did nothing barring two good runs into the opposition penalty box, but blatantly dived late on, to snatch a point for Chelsea.

Rating: 4/5 (Take that if you love Sarcasm)

Hazard: Always cool as a cucumber to score from the spot late on in the match, he dazzled with his trickery and made the opposition defenders run at him and got them out of position.

Rating: 4.5/5

Willian: Basically he was quite better defensively than moving up front, the Brazilian looked composed, but did nothing to supplement attacks up front.

Rating: 2.5/5

Oscar: Looked as if he tried to do  too much at times.

Rating: 2/5

Eto’o: Scored the goal, which he should never had scored if not for Ridgewell’s poor defence. Starting the game in the absence of injured Torres, Eto’o might feel a little disappointed with this display.

Rating: 2.5/5

All in all, it was far from a good performance by the Blues at their home, in a game they were expected to win comfortably. Steve Clarke loved coming back to one of his previous employers but would be heart broken given the referee robbed his impressive team off two points.

Is he still the special one? Given players lose balance rather than diving, I remember Jose pointing out that diving is intolerable in the Game, maybe he and Ramires are on two extremely different wavelengths.
