Chelsea loaning out this 25-year-old star to Spanish outfit is a move that will serve all parties well – Agreed?

Baba Rahman leaving Chelsea on loan for Spain looks like a fair settlement

According to BBC, out-of-favour Chelsea star Baba Rahman has completed a move to newly-promoted La Liga side RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan deal.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian international signed a one-year extension with the Blues until the summer of 2022 before heading out on loan to Spain, uniting with Brazilian winger Kenedy, who has also agreed to spend the 2019-20 campaign at Getafe following an 18-month loan spell at Newcastle United.

The left-back, who joined Chelsea from German Bundesliga side Augsburg back in the summer fo 2015, made a total of 23 appearances for the Blues in the 2015-16 season, with some of his performances in the Premier League and the Champions League earning his rave reviews from fans and pundits alike.

Despite that, however, Baba Rahman fell out of favour upon Antonio Conte’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2016 and the Ghanaian’s future in West London has looked dead and buried ever since, with the left-back not making an appearance for the Blues in the last three seasons.

The 25-year-old spent a couple of loan spells at Schalke, as well as at Reims in Ligue 1, where he put in some impressive performances in the second half of the previous campaign.

However, after failing to impress new manager Frank Lampard this summer, a fourth loan move away from West London was always going to be on the cards for the left-back and Chelsea’s stance on the 25-year-old shouldn’t come as a big shock to the fans.

Despite his obvious talent and well-rounded attributes as an offensive-minded full-back, Baba Rahman had turned into somewhat of a forgotten figure at Chelsea, with the frequent change in philosophy brought about by the managerial instability at the club playing a key role in his downfall.

The 28-cap Ghanaian international, who represented his nation at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the summer in Egypt, was way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and, with Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso already in the ranks, it is quite clear that he was surplus to requirements.

To put things into perspective, Rahman continues to be an exciting full-back with dynamic abilities but given that his chances of playing in the first-team this season were very bleak, a loan move to Spain seems like a fair settlement for all parties involved.

The 25-year-old signed an extension with Chelsea before leaving on loan, although that looks more like a stance adopted by the club to protect their investment rather than the player hoping to revive his career at Stamford Bridge.

As harsh as it might sound, it seems highly unlikely that Rahman would don the Chelsea shirt ever again in his career, having been left out of the first-team fold for more than three years now.

To that end, a loan move to a highly-technical league, such as the La Liga, could potentially work wonders for the player.

An impressive season in the Spanish top-flight could pave the way for a permanent move away from Chelsea for the 25-year-old and will be looking to grab his opportunity with both hands, given that his career at Stamford Bridge has come to a standstill.

Similarly, the Blues are also likely to be aware that they would need to cash in on him sooner rather than later to try and recoup the money that they had spent to bring the Ghanaian to the club. With that in mind, a successful loan spell for Rahman at Mallorca could alert a few suitors to his availability next summer.

All in all, it doesn’t require a professional analyst to figure out that the loan move makes perfect sense for all parties involved.
