Chelsea FC: Return Of The Special One?

Share

Jose Mourinho claimed the 54th Capital one Cup with an easy, comfortable win over Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 scoreline courtesy of John Terry and an own goal from Kyle Walker at Wembley. John Terry & Co. have ushered a new era of dominance and confidence into this current new generation of Chelsea winning their first trophy of the season.

This win proves why Mourinho is still the “Special One” at Wembley once again. Back in 2004 when Mourinho started his first season at Chelsea FC, he stated in his first press conference as the self proclaimed “Special One” winning the Carling Cup (now the capital one cup) and the premier league title early on although down the road he had a rocky patch with the owner Roman Abramovich.

He soon conquered Italy, Spain and now back in England, known for his mind games, he has set out to make Chelsea a European force again on the Champions League platform. This season could soon turn into a treble for Jose Mourinho as many pundits have raised their stakes pitted against Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG and Bayern Munich to win the Champions League.

This victory has surely boosted the players who under Mourinho are maturing and developing as a dominant force of this era. As Quoted in his first season, the title battle as a three horse race and referred to his team infamously as ‘a little horse’ up against two supposed competitors in Arsenal and Manchester City. A little horse in need of further nurture, not yet ready to compete the aforementioned challengers and win the Premiership crown but now seems a reality.

He needed the world to sit up and take notice of him for all the right reasons. Petr Cech, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Zouma in the Matic role with Ramires, Fabregas in the hole behind Costa flanked by Hazard and Willian tactically plotted by him.

JOSE MOURINHO’S HONOURS LIST

Porto: Primeira Liga (2003, ’04), Portuguese Cup (2003), UEFA Cup (2003), Champions League (2004), Portuguese Super Cup (2003)

Chelsea: Premier League (2005, ’06), FA Cup (2007), League Cup (2005, ’07, ’15), Community Shield (2005)

Inter Milan: Serie A (2009, 2010), Italian Cup (2010), Champions League (2010), Italian Super Cup (2008)

Real Madrid: Primera Division (2012), Copa del Rey (2011), Spanish Super Cup (2012)

Now the next task is to be Champions of England for Chelsea, who travel to West Ham on Wednesday, lead the Premier League by five points with 12 games to play.

They also have a game in hand with second-placed Manchester City. Will we see the Special One repeat another treble like last seen at Porto and Inter Milan?
