EFL Championship XI – Featuring Only New Arrivals

While the likes of Newcastle, Stoke and others toil in the transfer market, the Championship clubs have been extremely busy as they jockey for position in what is a winnable league now.

Wolves have been particularly ambitious and impressive over the last few weeks, while the likes of Fulham and Derby look to build on decent platforms in order to eventually grab their hitherto elusive promotions. Here’s a Championship XI, in a 4-4-2 formation, based on the best new signings in the division so far.

GK – Felix Wiedwald (Leeds)

This move may have gone under the radar slightly, but Wiedwald is a very capable stopper and brings valuable Bundesliga experience from Werder Bremen.

RB – Andre Wisdom (Derby)

Although Cyrus Christie was already a thoroughly capable Championship full-back, Derby have shown their attacking ambitions by bringing in Liverpool’s forward-thinking right-back in a cut price deal.

CB – Roderick Miranda (Wolves)

The club’s recruitment policy is ambitious and fearless, and Miranda will prove to be a defensive powerhouse for Wolves.

John Terry (right)

CB – John Terry (Aston Villa)

The 36-year-old former Chelsea and England captain has had a chequered off-the-field career, but on the pitch, his talent is not in doubt. Villa have managed to bring world class experience to their club for the upcoming campaign.

LB – Brendan Galloway (Sunderland)

The young left back has Premier League pedigree and has signed for the Black Cats on loan for the rest of the season.  Moves such as this are a cost-effective way of hauling yourself up the league and that is Sunderland’s aim, despite their financial woes.

RW – George Boyd (Sheff Wed)

The ex-Burnley winger is underrated and can still cut it in the Premier League. Sheff Wed will get the benefit of his quality, perhaps with him cutting in from the right on to his excellent left foot.

Ruben Neves

CM – Ruben Neves (Wolves)

The Molineux club have been excellent in the window so far, and this £15.8million signing from Porto tops the lot.

CM – Ibrahima Cisse (Fulham)

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has arrived in London from Standard Liege and is a real up-and-comer.

LW – Barrie McKay (Nottingham Forest)

Was deemed surplus to requirements at Rangers but clearly gets on well with their former manager Mark Warburton and hooks up with him again in Nottingham.

Barrie McKay

ST – Danny Ward (Cardiff)

The striker arrives from League One team Rotherham and may surprise a few up front.

ST – Famara Diedhiou (Bristol City)

Bristol City have a good eye for strikers and know how to look after them and feed them; the latest example being last year’s loan success Tammy Abraham. They have now spent on this Senegalese striker from Angers and he could be a huge hit.
