According to a report in Football Scotland, Scottish champions Celtic are closing in on the signature of Brentford left-back Rico Henry.
The Hoops are light in the left-back department after the departure of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal (h/t Football Scotland), so they are right in looking to replace the Scotland international as early as possible.
Brentford would want around £7m for Rico, who has done well over the past few months for them (h/t Football Scotland). He still has two years left in his contract with the Bees, thus, the price tag attached is on the higher side.
The Walsall academy product has progressed well and is now one of the regulars in the Championship. Below, we analyse his game in depth and conclude why signing him would strengthen a key position for the Hoops:
Predominantly a left-back with good attacking qualities, Rico Henry can also operate as a wide midfielder or as a wing-back.
The youngster began his youth career at Walsall, before playing first-team football for them and then joining Brentford in the summer of 2016. Since his arrival in the Championship, we have been able to witness his progress as a player, which is on the positive curve.
In terms of attributes, Henry has incredible pace to make runs up the field and recover them in time. He is physically strong and is a good dribbler of the ball.
Furthermore, the youngster has improved his one-vs-one defending in the wide areas, which is a necessity for fullbacks/wing-backs.
So it has to be said that if Celtic manage to sign him before the transfer deadline, they would go a long way in replacing Tierney and that too on a long-term basis.
