Celtic’s Best 2 Transfers In Recent Times

From Victor Wanyama to Virgin van Dijk, Celtic have made it an art form in recent years to sign quality players and sell them on. Last season was a relative success too; buying the talented Jozo Simunovic being a highlight, although the transfer fee was hardly a triumph.

Nadir Ciftci, Scott Allan and Dedryck Boyata probably didn’t go on to achieve what fans had hoped for. We take a look at two best transfers by Celtic in recent times.

Moussa Dembele

The Frenchman, still only 20-years-old, was nabbed on a free transfer from Fulham last summer where he had spent 3 seasons. His record of 64 games and 19 goals for the London side is an excellent one for such a young player and he has continued to progress.

32 goals in 49 games across all competitions has been a great return, though it’s his European form which appears to confirm to clubs in England that he is the real deal.

He had been playing his league football right in Chelsea’s geographical area just months earlier and was available for free.  That said, he’s done a great job for Celtic this year in the games that really meant something and is a firm fan favourite already.

Scott Sinclair

Despite not quite making it at the top level in England, Sinclair’s record in the Scottish Premiership is better even than Dembele’s. Playing deeper and wider than the Frenchman, Sinclair has netted 25 goals in 38 domestic games for Celtic and has arguably played a part bigger than any other player in the run they have been on this season.

Sinclair is arguably the best player in Scotland right now and at 28, he will most likely not curtail his form next season either. Once again, they only worry about him in the bigger picture is that he has not scored in 7 European attempts for the club. This, allied with his not setting the Premier League alight in Enlgland seems to show that he is not of the required standard to take Celtic forward in the Champions League.

Celtic’s bread and butter though will always be the Premiership, the cup and playing Old Firm games against Rangers and at that level, for now, Scott Sinclair is about as good as they come.
