Celtic FC News: Virgil Van Dijk thanked Celtic after winning the PFA Player of the year award

Celtic FC News: Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk thanked Celtic after he won the Premier League player of the year award. (h/t Football Scotland)

The 27-year-old has been at the heart of the defence for the Reds this season.

The Dutch centre-back holds a stupendous record for not letting any player dribble past him in more than 50 matches.

He has bagged 5 goals and 2 assists this season for the Reds and has been pivotal behind Reds’ title push.

Now, Van Dijk has become the first centre-back to win the award since John Terry in 2005.

Upon receiving the award, the former Southampton player didn’t forget to thank his former clubs.

I want to thank FC Groningen, I want to thank Southampton and obviously Liverpool and Celtic obviously as well, not to forget”.

Van Dijk broke into public’s eye during his time at Park Head, where he made more than 100 appearances in three years.

Alongside van Dijk, his fellow team-mate and Scottish Skipper Andrew Robertson was also included in the PFA team of the year.

The 25-year-old commenced his career with the Hoops Academy and now he has become one the best left-backs in the world.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are second in the Premier League table, trailing Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s men will be crowned Champions if they win in all of their remaining games.

The Reds will be hosting Barcelona this week in the Champions League semi-finals first leg.

Meanwhile, the Bhoys are on the verge of winning their eighth straight league title under Neil Lennon.
