According to a report in Wales Online, Cardiff City are looking to sign Brighton and Hove Albion’s Glenn Murray after getting relegated from the Premier League last season. He has been outstanding for the Seagulls in the last two seasons and has surprised many with his consistent performances.
He made 42 appearances last season and scored 15 goals and 1 assist. This is particularly impressive, considering the fact that he is now 35 and never hit the heights in all these years.
He’s an example of a late bloomer. He had a couple of short but unsuccessful spells at Bournemouth and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
With Chris Hughton being replaced by Graham Potter, there will be a definite shift stylistically in the manner in which Brighton will play and this could be seen as a reason why Potter is ready to do with the services of the veteran Englishman.
Potter’s Swansea City played with a lot of energy and high-tempo and Murray might not be capable of meeting those demands. This is not to undermine Glenn Murray, who actually is an extremely hard working striker and gives his all for the club.
Murray’s best attributes are in the box. He is an extremely calm and composed finisher and can get you a goal out of nothing. He’s also very good at holding the ball up from long passes. In the 2017/18 season, Murray scored 14 goals. The last two seasons have been quite amazing, considering Brighton mostly struggled.
But Brighton’s loss could be Cardiff’s gain. Murray has good experience in the Championship, having scored plenty of goals in the past and would solve a massive issue that Cardiff faced last season. Neil Warnock’s side played with a lot of bravery and organization.
However, they lacked the quality to survive the Premier League with a lot of positions uncovered. One of those positions was that of a centre-forward. It was extremely unfortunate that their January signing Emiliano Sala passed away in a tragic plane crash that had brought the footballing world into weeks and months of mourning.

Sala could’ve been the one to help solve the centre-forward situation as they had to use Callum Patterson as a forward, who is actually profiled as a defender. With Murray’s signing, they can look at themselves as strong promotion candidates again.
