Can This American Effectively Replace John Terry In The Long Run For Chelsea?

Chelsea seem to have a habit of buying a young player and then very well destroying their career somehow or another. They brought in another player in Matt Miazga from the United States just after the news broke that John Terry would probably not be at the club next season.

The 20-year-old defender who played for the New York Red Bulls might have been a bit of a surprise signing for most people but he seems to be a talent, at least in terms of American football and well Chelsea seem to have invested in the future with Miazga.

Miazga was part of the Chelsea team that played against PSG in the UEFA Champions League but he did not make it onto the pitch as he remained on the subs bench. He made his senior debut in the MLS against the Dynamos but it always did not work out for Miazga as he was even sent to train with another Red Bull side since they did not think he was good enough to play for the MLS club.

Miazga though did overcome this hurdle and he made 34 appearances over two seasons for the club and found the net once for the side in the league campaign. Chelsea did get his signature in January 2016 but what is his game all about?

Miazga is extremely strong, something that will help him in his time playing for Chelsea. The Premier League is not the easiest league to play in and the physicality and pace of the game is something that often catches other players out.

The American is great in the air also and will not have a problem dealing with some of the better headers of the ball. Miazga also seems to be able to play the ball out of the defence, another important asset to have for a team that can look for a defender who is calm on the ball.

He can pass the ball around and that will surely be something that catches the eye of many supporters. The American however isn’t the most disciplined player in the world and often gets into rash challenges on the opposition.

His temperament has to improve and with almost every player out there who is young, he does need to get a little bit more consistent if he does want to become a regular at Chelsea.

Miazga though would not get a starting place in the Chelsea team now, especially with Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill leading the line but he can learn from the other players there and get better before he does make regular appearances for the side.
